How I’d Like to Upgrade and Improve My Current Home

28th April 2020

We have lived in our current home for about 11 years now, and even though we never planned to be here for that long, it is a lovely house and we are mostly happy here.

It really does need some work doing to it though and there are some particular things I would love to do to make it exactly how we’d like it.

Some are smaller things, and others would require some building work (and money!), but all of them would really improve our house, as well as make it more saleable in the future.

How I’d Like to Upgrade and Improve My Current Home

The first big thing I would do is to knock out the window and wall in our dining room and replace it with some lovely French doors. From the very first time we viewed the house we talked about having some doors like this, but, unfortunately, as we did up the whole house before we moved in, we just didn’t have the money left to do it then.

It would be so lovely to be able to open the doors on those gorgeous summer days, let Ava be able to run in and out freely and it would really open up the room and help to bring the outside in. I would also replace the current floor with some beautiful wood floor that would run right through the dining room into the kitchen.

I would re-paint everywhere as that desperately needs doing, but I would change some of the colours and liven it up a bit. I’d love to paint some rooms in really bright colours, as I’m quite bored of white now, and I also don’t like the wallpaper in our bedroom, so I’d change that too. I’d love something really bright and fun.

I would love to convert our small bathroom into a much bigger one by knocking down the wall between the bathroom and the study, to make a huge, open bathroom. I would have a shower cubicle, a big freestanding bath and enough lovely storage to store all my (many) beauty products and toiletries.

After that, it would be a two-bedroom house instead of three, so I’d want to look into the cost of a double-storey extension to give us an extra room both upstairs and downstairs, which would be amazing having the extra space. I could use one of the rooms as an office, which I would absolutely love — it would be so much better to be able to work out of the way and have my own space for all of my blogging stuff. It would also increase the value of the house and make it more appealing to larger families.

I would love to give my garden a gorgeous makeover and that is something I am currently working on now as much as I can. I would love to have some decking instead of the paving stones we have now, and I want to fill up the borders with beautiful flowers and evergreen plants. I’d really like to have a beautiful big wicker basket filled with herbs (that I wouldn’t kill for once), and pretty pots with plants in all around the patio.
