Hi! I’m Lou, a 40-year-old (ish!) mum of a daughter. I live in Nottingham, England, with her, my husband, a dog and two rabbits . I have a longing to live somewhere warmer, though – ideally Spain.Â
Birds and Lilies was started in 2012 when my daughter was six months old, after I had left my old social media marketing blog behind, and wanted to write about my new life as a mum and hopefully create something that meant I could stay at home with my daughter whilst doing something that I love.
Essentially, this blog is all about my life and my thoughts and feelings on different things. We tried for our daughter for four years and went through two rounds of IVF. I blog about that as well as books, travel, parenting, food, wine, beauty and style, weddings, mental health, and our day-to-day life.
My favourite posts to write are those that just spill out of my brain, and are real and honest – and they seem to be the ones my readers like the most too.
I’m a blogger and freelance writer, which I love, and I feel so grateful that I get to do this full-time around school runs and family time. I have been lucky enough to work with lots of brands, both big and small, and I love working hard to create content that we are both happy with.
I can be rather sarcastic, and I think I’m quite funny sometimes. I might be the only one who does. Oh, and I love lists, and I make a lot.
I am always late, but I wish I wasn’t, and it is something that I am always working on. I am quite shy until I get to know you. Then, once I do, I talk far too much and never stop.
I really want to learn to play the piano and to salsa. My dream is to travel across America (in a car with its top down). I try to exercise regularly, but I am annoyingly inconsistent with it. I am really interested in health and wellness, and I love finding remedies or products that can help with my health in a more natural way and help me to live a more balanced life. I go to bed too late and I drink too much wine and tea. I also take lots of supplements, drink a lot of water, eat coconut oil, drink lemon water, and make my own healthy chocolate.
If I had to describe myself, I would say I am friendly, emotional, sensitive, impatient, self-conscious, stubborn, caring, happy, petulant, a bit of a drama queen, and I’m always right.
When I asked my daughter to describe me in three words at the time of writing this, she said: ‘I love you more than anything else in the whole wide world’. She wasn’t so great at counting back then.
It’s really lovely to have you here – I hope you enjoy reading.
I would love to hear from you. You can contact me via email at louise@birdsandlilies.com, or connect with me on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook.
My wonderful daughter.

Sorry, two comments in one visit, but my goodness the way you describe yourself it’s like we are twins!!! Well, twins separated by 15 years! It’s really funny…every thing you say is how I would describe me! In fact, I was writing a list before I started to read your blog. I love lists. I too am friendly, emotional, stubborn, sensitive, impatient, self conscious, caring, loyal, funny, silly. I live in Michigan, so if you make it over here, stop by…I know Michigan isn’t a main attraction compared to NYC, California, Grand Canyon, etc. But it is a beautiful state with lots of lakes! 🙂
Haha, you don’t need to be sorry at all twinny!! They sound like great personality traits to have 😉
I will be sure to let you know if we make it over there any time. I would love to go to Michigan!
So jealous you’re from England!! I would love to travel there someday. If you make it to Kentucky on your trek, be sure to come in the Spring or Fall; those are the best seasons here! =)
Thanks! I’m jealous of you! 🙂
You are too funny! So glad to have new blog on my bookmarks. I’m totally stalking you in Nottingham next month. 😉
Hehe thanks! Yes, do! I’m glad to have your blog to read now too 🙂
Your bio is so personable. Absolutely exquisite. Keep blogging, mama!
Thank you! x
