The Perfume Experience Box from Pairfum London | A Review

30th September 2021

Did anyone else stop wearing perfume over lockdown? I absolutely love wearing my favourite perfume but over the last year or so it has felt like a waste when I’ve just been staying at home.

But now life is mostly back and we’re going out again and so I am loving going out and smelling beautiful for the supermarket and school run!

Finding a perfume I love can be a tricky task. I am very fussy when it comes to perfumes – I don’t like anything too sweet and sickly, or too flowery, and so many I really like until twenty minutes later when I am still smelling it every time I move and can no longer stand it and have to wash my hands and wrists immediately.

But finding one you love, that makes you happy when you spritz it all over yourself is such a lovely thing.

So, getting to try the Perfume Experience Box from Pairfum London was perfect for me as I could take my time to try the different scents on me at different times, rather than having ten different smells in different places on my hands and wrists and forgetting which one is which and which one it is that I do actually like! Plus it means you avoid trying to work out if you like something whilst surrounded by all of the smells and distractions of a busy department store.

It’s a new way to try perfume at home and it’s a lovely way to find your favourite without feeling the pressure of choosing one and then not liking it when you get home!

The idea is to recreate the style of the classic perfumeries of old, in which the perfumer met with his clientele on a one-to-one basis and you took your time in the relaxed environment and then wore the ones you liked for at least a day before making your final choice. It made a trip to the perfumery a treat to savour and enjoy – I love the old-worldliness of it all!

Pairfum London is London’s boutique perfumery house, creating natural fragrances that are unique and that you won’t keep smelling on others!

They make luxurious fragrances for both you and your home, with the scents being inspired by the style and beauty, and areas and sights of London – the heady flowers of Kew Gardens, strawberries and cream during Wimbledon, the smokey incense of Camden Town, the spices of Portobello Road Market.

They offer beautiful handmade candles, diffusers, lotions and potions, and their boutique perfumes, and Pairfum London are one of the few remaining Perfumery Houses Worldwide that still have their own in-house perfumer.

Pairfum London fragrances are really unique and adapt to your skin so they smell different on everyone, and not only that, but they are manufactured in batches still so the fragrances can change from one to another as the natural ingredients can change their profile according to the characteristics of the crop, just like with wine!

I really like the idea of having almost your own, unique perfume and the Perfume Experience Box is a brilliant way to discover and choose your favourite.

But not only that, it gives you some great miniatures to enjoy and take away with you and if you decide to buy a full-sized bottle then the price of the experience box is deducted, which is brilliant. It would make a really special and unusual gift for someone – you could present them with the box so they can choose their favourite that you can then get for them, with no risk of them hating a perfume you choose!

The box contains a collection of 12 Eau de Parfum bottles containing around a hundred sprays each, which gives you enough for about two weeks so you can really be sure of which you love, or you can save your favourites to keep as a travel perfume!

They come in a lovely presentation box with a magnetic closure, as well as with 50 smelling strips.

As I said before, I am very fussy when it comes to perfume, but there were honestly lots of these I liked and it took me a while to find my favourites.

It was so helpful though, to be able to keep trying them without any rush and give them time to settle on my skin, as well as have the chance to get other people’s opinions on how they smelt on me.

I was a little worried that I just wouldn’t particularly like any of them, as so many perfume scents can give me a headache, but there were lots that I loved on me, and even the ones I didn’t still smelt really nice to me. I was so sure, for example, that I wouldn’t like ‘Spiced Coffee & Oaked Vanilla’ – vanilla scents are usually way too sweet for me and make me feel a bit sick, but this smells really nice! I presume that’s because they use natural ingredients so they are ‘real’ smells and not fake and cloying as some can be.

One of my favourites after a while was one I had dismissed initially as I wasn’t keen on it on me at all, but once it settled a bit I kept going back to it and started to love it. I wouldn’t normally have the chance to do that in a shop.

I find it fascinating how different scents mean different things to each of us and how just catching a whiff of something can take us right back to a place or time. One of the perfumes (Scarlet Rhubarb & Oakmoss) for some reason smelled to me of amazing family holidays in Florida and the memories associated with them and so I fell in love with it a bit more.

It’s not something I’ve ever considered with a perfume before, but these actually feel really nice on my skin, making it lovely and soft. That is probably the essential oils they contain – Pairfum London’s perfumes are all natural and handmade, as well as vegan, cruelty-free and eco-friendly.

I also find the scent lasts a really long time, unlike shop-bought fragrances which I can’t smell on myself after not very long at all.

A few of my favourites were the Scarlet Rhubarb & Oakmoss I mentioned before; Sea Salt, Sage & Amber; Bergamot, Basil & Patchouli; and Grapefruit, Pepper & Black Cedar which seems quite unisex and sexy to me.; and Neroli, Musk & Orange Blossom – honestly I can’t decide on my favourite as they’re all so lovely.

If you’re after a beautiful, quality perfume that you won’t keep smelling on others then you should definitely give this experience box a try to see if there are any you fall in love with too. It’s such a convenient and new way to try perfumes and I loved being able to test them at home and find the ones I liked best.

The Perfume Experience Box costs £30 and you can get it here: Pairfum London.
