I have been drinking Kefir milk for a couple of years now and I love including it in my diet for the health benefits and I enjoy drinking it too.
Kefir milk is a fermented milk drink that is a bit like a drinkable thin yoghurt containing billions of gut-friendly bacteria so it has loads of health benefits. It is made from kefir grains, which are complex micro-organisms that have a harmonious balance of bacteria, yeasts and enzymes, giving kefir unique qualities.
You can only get kefir grains from more kefir grains as they are naturally occurring and cannot be man-made. They grow and multiply in milk and small pieces break off the big cluster, which also start growing, and the process continues.
There can be up to forty different strains of good bacteria and twenty strains of yeasts living in a kefir cluster, compared to normal yoghurt which is made with only two strains of bacteria.
Kefir is naturally high in protein and calcium and a great source of vitamin B12 which contributes to the normal function of the immune system and to the reduction of tiredness. It’s also a source of vitamin B2 that contributes to optimal metabolism as well as being great for our gut.
Biotiful Dairy Kefir
Biotiful Dairy make a range of tasty and healthy kefir drinks and products at their dairy farm in Dorset, using locally-sourced whole milk and live kefir cultures.
As well as their kefir drinks and their range for children, they have some new kefir shots in three different flavours; original, Acerola Cherry & Tea, and Peach & Turmeric, all of which taste really nice and similar to flavoured yoghurts (but with way more health benefits).
The 100ml Shot is a really convenient way to support your immunity every morning with billions of gut-friendly bacteria in every bottle and no-added-sugar.
Biotiful also have two new flavours of their kefir drink, Blackcurrant and Mango (which is my favourite – it’s so nice!) as well as Slurpy drinks for children so they can get the benefits of kefir, and even kefir cream cheeses and ice cream!
Some kefir can taste pretty nasty, but these are all so delicious and I always want more. I loved the soft cheeses that come in different flavours and I’ll definitely get them again if I see them in the supermarket. I’d also love to try the kefir ice cream.
The products all taste really smooth and creamy and I love knowing they’re so good for us too.
