Work Out With Glasses? Check Out These Tips to Make Exercise Easier

5th August 2020

When you’re enjoying a full sweat session, it’s easy to feel irritated by your gym clothes sticking to you, your bottle running out of water, or having other gym-goers failing to respect your personal space. As annoying as these things are, they can all be easily fixed. Sadly, the same can’t be said for those who need to wear glasses.

Moving around on your face, steaming up, slipping down your nose from sweat and even falling off your face from jumping around – burpees and glasses just don’t mix! Eyewear, although a necessity for so many of us, can be a real pain when we’re trying to feel the burn.

However, just because you wear glasses, it doesn’t mean you have to reduce the energy and power you put into your workouts. Here we’ll look at how you can work out effectively with your glasses.

Secure them with an accessory strap or cord

Whether you’re running for miles as part of your morning routine or you’re lifting weights in the gym and trying to beat your personal best, the quickest and simplest way to prevent your glasses from falling from your face is to secure them with a strap or a cord.

Just bought some new rectangle glasses? Or geometric ones? Whatever the shape, a simple accessory strap will keep them in place throughout the duration of your workout. You can even coordinate the colour of your strap with your gym kit or glasses!

Prescription eyewear

If swimming is your fitness activity of choice and you normally wear glasses, then you just have to adapt to blurred vision in the pool. Right? Wrong! Did you know that prescription goggles are available? This simple solution means that if you’re diving from the top board or trying to work on your front crawl, your vision won’t be compromised.

If you love working out outdoors in the summer, then consider prescription sunglasses to keep the glare off your face and protect your eyes from UV rays.

Choose a frame with a better fit

If your glasses are moving around your face too much during those HIIT sessions, you might benefit from a frame with a better fit. You may need a narrower frame to prevent them from shifting, so keep this in mind when you go and choose a new frame.

Lighter frames and nose grips are your friends!

Large oversized glasses are popular right now, and as cute as they look, they’re not always practical during a sweaty workout. These heavier frames mean that they’re more likely to shift and the lack of grip also means you’ll be pushing them back up your nose throughout your workout.

Opt for lighter frames such as rimless ones made out of lightweight metal materials, and look for glasses that have nose-pads. These little pads will help prevent your eyewear from slipping. They’re a real game-changer!

Finally…take it seriously

You wouldn’t invest in a poorly fitting sports-bra or a pair of leggings that aren’t squat proof, so take your time and invest in a good pair of glasses that will complement your workout.
