When it comes to looking after our children, we become more than aware of the challenges they bring to our daily lives, but there are going to be times when we feel like we’re struggling through everything. Feeling overwhelmed or frazzled is an almost default setting for some parents. If you can’t remember taking your kids on the school run in the car or you are overwhelmed with the volume of extracurricular activities and the pressure to maintain a home, it’s important to remember some of the following when you feel like this.

There is Always a Solution to a Problem

We can have days where we put the wrong shoes on the wrong child or think we put the keys in our purse, only to find we’ve left them at home. When we feel overwhelmed because of the mistakes we’ve made, we can beat ourselves up way too much. Every problem has a solution. If you’ve left your keys in the house, you can get a 24/7 emergency locksmith to open up the door for you, and if you’ve put the wrong shoes on a child, they are only shoes!

You may think this is one more problem than you could deal with right now, but it’s important to remember that the stress we feel is more to do with how we view the obstacle. You can feel overwhelmed by the task of getting your children to school on time, but when you look at it with a different lens, is it just putting too much pressure on the situation? Changing your perspective can do a lot.

How Will You Feel About This Problem in the Future?

We can feel the pressures of having to keep going for the sake of our children. The problem we’ve all got, not just as parents, but as humans, is having that inbuilt mechanism that got us out of dangerous situations: fight-or-flight. Most problems don’t require you to have a degree in mathematics to solve them! While there may be a problem today, recognising that, nine times out of ten, problems do not cause immediate dangers can give you that perspective.

You could feel overwhelmed by having to get your children to school on time every single day, but how are you going to feel about this problem tomorrow or next year? If there’s no point in worrying about it for the rest of your natural life, just remember, it is only an issue that causes frustration in the short term.

Let Out Your Frustrations in a Healthy Manner

We can feel overwhelmed with everyday matters. The problem is when we’ve not had enough sleep and our senses are full to the point of bursting. Rather than thinking you need to keep pushing through, the better solution is to have an outlet for your frustrations or stresses. There are many solutions, like writing in a journal or exercising. Whatever you need to do, it will only bolster your parental abilities. We can all feel frazzled and overwhelmed, but it’s about remembering if the sense of overwhelm is actually worth paying attention to.
