Top Tips for Decorating Your Home

10th December 2021

A home renovation can set you back thousands and having the right tips to hand can stop you from making costly mistakes while helping you to get the most out of your space. Here are a few top tips to help you decorate your home, shared by a building supplies firm in Hertfordshire.

Keep it Light and Neutral

While decorative wallpapers and bold colours are stunning, they can also limit your flexibility in the future. With neutral tones, you can spruce up your space as many times as you like without having to get the paint rollers out. With only a few accent changes, you can have a complete renovation. This is recommended for smaller spaces like hallways and box rooms to open them up and give the illusion of a much bigger space.

A Mirror for Each Room

Mirrors work their magic by bouncing light all around the room. They can help to make your room seem brighter and less gloomy, a must for those living in the UK. As well as this, they can be strategically placed to give the illusion of a bigger space with a long, standing mirror or a mirrored wardrobe.

Displaying Artwork

Artwork can add character and the finishing touches to a room but can also be done poorly.  When selecting your artwork, take note of the dimensions that you have to work with.  If you have a small wall, smaller pieces can stop the walls from looking as if they’re closing in. Whereas if you have a large wall, you want to get something that is proportional and makes the most of the space to avoid it looking bare. These must be hung at eye level so that your art can be properly appreciated and doesn’t look ‘off’ from being placed at a weird height or angle.

Add Layers of Lighting

Light is something that will really transform a room as we’ve touched on before. Adding additional lighting beneath cupboards and any other nooks and crannies will help to make a small square room seem larger and much more multi-dimensional.
