Top 5 Places to Visit in Barcelona, Spain

If you’ve never been to Barcelona, you’ve been missing out on an amazing adventure! This is one of the most visited cities in Europe, and yet, every time you visit, you’ll find new attractions and sights to discover. So, if you’re not sure where to go on vacation next, I recommend booking a trip to Catalonia’s capital, and enjoying a few days full of mystery and fun!
Not to mention, Barcelona is a fantastic location for families (assuming you’ve taken all the necessary measures for the occasion). It has beautiful parks, adventure-oriented areas, beaches, and lots of streets to lose yourself in time and space.
But let’s have a closer look to the wonders Barcelona can offer to both kids and adults.
#1: Boqueria Market (Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria)
This starts with a walk on Las Ramblas (Barcelona’s largest boulevard) where you get to see the touristic side of this city. Here you’ll find all sorts of items from clothes to jewellery to kids’ toys and food. Las Ramblas has everything for anyone and leads you to the Boqueria, a market that’s famous all around the world.
The market has a life of its own, vibrant with voices, colours, and flavours. In my opinion, this is a location no tourist should ignore!
#2: Take a Tour
If you want specialised help, you can book one-day tours from here, but you can also make it your own. The beauty of Barcelona is that it offers plenty of possibilities to discover it. Some tourists prefer a car while others would rather walk. But you can also take a bike ride and have some fun while admiring one of the world’s most culturally rich cities.
#3: Gaudí’s Heritage
The famous architect, Antoni Gaudí, used his talent to embellish Barcelona with gorgeous buildings that puzzle us even today. For instance, did you know that its masterpiece, La Sagrada Familia church, is not yet complete?
Also, did you know he worked on several castles, houses, and schools in and around Barcelona? Gaudí is everywhere you look, but the beauty of his work is characterised by diversity, so you won’t get bored admiring his work.
#4: The Museums
If you travel with kids and you’re looking to teach them about world culture, Barcelona has the best locations for this! From the Museum of Picasso to the cobblestone streets that were once roamed by Romans, this city is packed with culture and history!
Some sites offer the possibility to take a tour focused only on museums and other cultural aspects, and I recommend taking it. It’s best to be guided by locals who know all the juicy details when it comes to this side of the city!
#5: Montserrat
This is a location for adventurers, looking to find that unique landscape that will send thrills down the spine. Montserrat is a Benedictine Monk retreat in the mountains surrounding the city and offers a spectacular view and incredible stories.
A visit to Montserrat is a day trip, and you have the possibility to take the train there and back. The trip itself is a fantastic journey, and I can’t recommend it enough!
Hoping that I managed to spark your interest in Barcelona, I will end this trip through the most interesting locations by mentioning that there’s more to this city than meets the eye! Also, you should know that if you visit it once, you’ll want to do so again and again. Barcelona has a certain charm that can’t be ignored!
