Until I spoke to Misha, the owner of this Hackney-based company, I had never heard of sea moss or Chondrus crispus to go by its scientific name.

It’s likely to be something we hear about more and more though as it is tipped to be the next big superfood, and there is some great research being carried out on its benefits. What is sea moss?

Sea moss is a type of red algae that grows on the Atlantic coastlines of Europe, North America, and the Caribbean Islands. It is sometimes known as Irish moss or red seaweed and it grows year-round in tidepools and inlets. It is a cousin of spirulina which I have taken on and off for years in smoothies in its powder form for its health benefits.
