Review: Naked Nutrition Grass-Fed Whey Protein Powder
As a woman who went through early menopause in my mid-30s and am now in my early 40s, I come across a lot of information about protein and how important it is at our age, and especially after menopause.

Protein is vital for women’s health, but during peri-menopause and menopause, declining levels of hormones can lead to us losing muscle mass and strength, gaining belly fat (the decline in oestrogen increases visceral fat), a decrease in bone density, having lower energy and a slower metabolism – meaning we need protein even more at this stage of our lives.
Seeing all of the information and learning more about protein has made me more interested in whether I’m getting enough and whether I’m looking after my bones and muscle strength enough. And to be honest, I don’t really think I am.
I’ve lost some weight over the last year, and whilst I am feeling better about my body, I’ve not been feeling great for a while now. I’ve been really lacking in energy; I’m so tired all the time, and I just feel so run down and drained constantly, which means I’ve barely exercised over the last few months (probably longer tbh).
Losing muscle is something that I have been concerned about since losing weight and not doing any strength training (so important for women our age!). I have finally had a blood test to check my hormone levels and any vitamin and mineral deficiencies to see if I can find out why I feel so rough. But as well as that, I have wanted to work on getting more protein in my diet, but it was another of those things that I just kept not getting round to, other than making myself have a spoonful of cottage cheese with my lunch every now and then. I’d even stopped wanting my daily Greek yoghurt fix, so I was getting less protein than usual.
And if I think about the symptoms of protein deficiency (oedema, hair loss, brittle nails, muscle weakness, reduced muscle mass, and slower wound healing), I have most of these!
So when Naked Nutrition asked if I’d like to try something from their range, I read up on their Grass Fed Whey Protein Powder and agreed to try it. Over the last year or so, I’ve seen loads of women around my age sharing on Instagram that they take protein powder, but it hadn’t really appealed until I saw where it could fit into my routine, as well as a need for it for my health.
To be honest, I thought I would be saying no to it as soon as I’d looked at the ingredient list (which happens so often), presuming it would be full of crap I didn’t want to put in my body, but that’s absolutely not the case.
What is Naked Nutrition Grass-Fed Whey Protein Powder?
A protein powder is a dietary supplement for people who want to increase their protein intake. This could include people looking to build lean muscle, lose weight, or simply increase their protein.
Whey is a common type of protein powder: a fast-digesting, complete, milk-based protein popular for post-workout recovery.
Naked Nutrition Grass-Fed Whey Protein Powder is for those looking to boost their daily protein intake, providing the nutrition needed to support their health and help them reach their goals. It is also ideal for people with busy schedules who find it difficult to get in enough protein, even if they don’t go to the gym or train hard (like me!).

I chose the unflavoured Naked Whey, which is made up of 100% Whey Protein Concentrate. I chose the unflavoured version rather than chocolate or vanilla as I don’t always want something flavoured, and it gives me the perfect base to flavour it myself if I want something fruity or chocolatey that day.
This one contains no other ingredients – although the others only contain minimal ingredients too; the chocolate one only has organic coconut sugar and organic cacao powder added, and the vanilla has the coconut sugar and natural flavourings – which is so good. The whey comes from cows that are grass-fed and free-roaming on small non-GMO dairy farms, where the cows are raised without hormones like rBGH or rBST (which are synthetic, genetically engineered growth hormones given to dairy cows to boost milk production – yuk).
The unflavoured Naked Whey is completely free of artificial additives, artificial sweeteners, and artificial flavours, and contains no fillers and no added sugar. There have been concerns that some protein powders contain high levels of heavy metals; however, Naked Nutrition say their products undergo independent testing to ensure they meet FDA safety standards, and that they keep them as pure as possible and well within these limits.
Why is it important that whey comes from grass-fed cows?
Grass-fed cows eat grass from the pasture, their natural food, meaning they shouldn’t be consuming any GMOs or harmful substances that feedlot cows are subjected to (an intensive system where cattle are confined and fed high-energy grain diets to gain weight rapidly).
Whey from grass-fed cows contains less saturated fat, more healthy fats, and delivers a complete amino acid profile with high bioavailability to support muscle repair and recovery.
Choosing a grass-fed whey source often means supporting more sustainable practices, avoiding synthetic growth hormones and reducing exposure to GMOs and residual agricultural chemicals.
The Benefits of Naked Nutrition Grass-Fed Whey Protein Powder
Naked Nutrition Grass-Fed Whey Protein Powder contains 25 grams of protein per serving, as well as 5.9 grams of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) – Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine – which help muscle protein synthesis to promote muscle growth and recovery after exercise. So one serving of Naked Nutrition Protein powder gives you the essential amino acids you need to build and maintain lean muscle mass and improve strength.
Proteins are made up of chains of amino acids. When we digest protein from foods or drinks, it is broken down into amino acids. The body then builds all the different proteins it needs from these amino acids.
Whey from grass-fed cows contains higher levels of the immune-boosting compounds beta-lactoglobulin, lactoferrin, and lysozyme. These compounds improve your body’s antioxidant response and help the fight against harmful bacteria.
Grass-fed whey also contains more conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a fatty acid that boosts immune function. CLA can also help preserve lean muscle mass and burn more fat. The higher CLA levels in grass-fed whey can support your body composition goals.
Grass-fed whey contains more omega-3 fatty acids and CLA than regular whey. Both CLA and omega-3s can support better metabolism and improve cardiovascular health.
Naked Nutrition says its whey is cold-processed without acid or bleach, using a process designed to limit heat exposure and preserve the proteins’ natural structure. It leaves the amino acids, omega-3s, CLA, and immunoglobulins intact.
Non-denatured whey is more bioavailable than regular whey. Your body can absorb the nutrients and amino acids more easily to promote better recovery. As a result, you get more of the benefits of whey protein, such as muscle growth, more energy, and better recovery.

How I’ve Been Using It
I’ve been using this protein powder for a couple of months now, and I use it in a few different ways. Firstly, I’ll just add a scoop or two of powder to a small glass of oat milk, use my stick whizzer thing (technical term) to blend it up and then add more oat milk. It makes a really tasty drink – to me, the protein powder has a slight taste of vanilla, which is really nice and works well with oat milk, but you could use normal cow’s milk too. It’s a quick and easy way to get more protein into my day, and I really enjoy it.
Then, if I have more time or want something more substantial, say as a breakfast or afternoon snack, I’ll make up a smoothie with it. I put some whey protein powder into some water or milk (or a mixture), add some collagen, a banana, some pineapple, strawberries or whatever fruit I have, some chia seeds, maybe some cucumber or kale if I have some, and blend it all up.
Every one that I’ve made has been really tasty, and they have loads of health benefits. I love the taste and simplicity of just making it into a banana milkshake, and the taste of the whey protein powder with the bananas and some milk works perfectly, and it’s quick to make.

I’ve also added it to some Greek yoghurt to really up my protein for the day, and of course that’s very quick and easy too. You can also add it to your baking, which is definitely something I’ll try.
Naked Nutrition recommend using their protein powder in the morning, before or after a workout, but to be honest, I’ve been having it either whenever I feel like a nice drink during the day, when I need a snack or breakfast, or when I don’t think I’ve had enough protein that day. I am interested to see whether it makes a difference to my workouts when I finally start exercising properly again, and I’ll definitely try it before them to see how it helps, particularly with strength training.
My thoughts on Naked Nutrition Grass-Fed Whey Protein Powder
I’ve tried the odd other protein powder before, and I can find them far too sweet, even if they only contain natural sugars, but the unflavoured Naked Nutrition Whey Protein Powder doesn’t taste sweet to me at all; it just has a really nice flavour.
It mixes into liquids really easily without going lumpy, and I find it dead easy to incorporate into my daily routine. And because I really enjoy drinks made with it, it’s not a chore or something that I have to force myself to take.
I love that I can easily increase my protein each day, or just on those days I realise I haven’t had enough through my meals, and as someone post-menopause, it’s very reassuring that I’m getting my protein in and looking after my muscles and bones as I get older.
The tub I have, which is 2280g, is absolutely massive and should last me a really long time, so I think it’s great value at £79.99 or £63.99 on subscription, and worth investing in once you know you like it and use it. The tub of 450g for £21.99 (or £17.59 on subscription) is perfect to try for the first time.
At £79.99, with 76 servings in the tub, that works out to approximately £1.05 per serving, which provides 25g of protein.
As well as the unflavoured version I have, you can also get chocolate and vanilla flavours – great if you have a sweet tooth or you know you’ll just have it daily with some milk or water (although banana and maybe a little peanut butter would be so nice with them too!). They also do a pea protein if you are lactose-free or vegan.
I’m really pleased that Naked Nutrition Whey Protein contains no extra ingredients and comes from grass-fed cows. When it’s something I’ll take often, and at different times of day, I don’t want to be worrying about having sugar, sweeteners or other crappy ingredients that might mess with my blood sugar or be bad for my health. It won BBC Good Food’s ‘best clean protein powder’ in their 2026 round-up of the best protein powders.
Conclusion
I really like Naked Nutrition Grass-Fed Whey Protein Powder and how it fits easily into my daily routine. I love the subtle taste of the unflavoured Naked Whey – it’s so easy to use as an ingredient in smoothies, just with milk or water, or added to yoghurt – adding to the daily protein I need as a menopausal woman in my 40s. It’s also really important to me that it only contains natural ingredients.
I’m not great at keeping up with taking things after the initial excitement of trying something new – it really has to add something and be very simple to incorporate – and this really is.
I’ve continued to use it most days and love that I’m getting more protein, especially whilst I’m not feeling my best and not working out as much as I should be. I’m interested to see how things improve taking Naked Whey over a longer period of time and whether some of my protein deficiency symptoms improve, given its high protein content.
Eating a range of protein-rich foods and doing some strength-based exercise are both important ways to support muscle health. But protein supplements can be a convenient way to add protein to what I’m already eating and help to support my health.
Protein is so important for our health; it builds and repairs tissues, supports muscle growth, and regulates key metabolic and immune functions. Eating enough protein can help manage hunger and cravings, strengthen bones, and help the body heal after injuries, so it’s something we should all be paying more attention to.
Naked Whey Protein Powder isn’t intended to replace a good diet, but if you’re after a clean, high-quality protein powder that’s easy to add into your day, it’s definitely worth considering.
