My Favourite Natural & Organic Skincare Products

15th July 2022

As I’ve got older I have started to think more about what I put into my body and I pay much more attention to what I eat now, and that also applies to what I put onto my skin as well.

We absorb so much through our skin and so making a switch to more natural products means we are absorbing fewer chemicals on a daily basis which is, of course, better for our health. Not only that, but beauty products often contain parabens, artificial fragrances, alcohols and synthetic foaming agents, such as Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) which can aggravate our skin, making it more sensitive or causing reactions, whereas more natural and organic products can actually help to calm sensitive skin and improve its condition.

Natural formulas are also now more effective than ever and so making the switch to more natural products doesn’t have to mean sacrificing the benefits. It’s important that the products I buy work, but if they can also be more natural too, then that is even better. Natural skincare and other beauty products are also better for the environment too, giving us even more reasons to switch.

So I do now choose natural skincare products where possible. I try not to think about it all too much because I don’t want to be constantly overwhelmed and worrying about it – life is hard enough – and unfortunately, I can’t afford to buy all natural or organic skincare and make-up, because it does often cost more.

However, I do use a few products that I think are absolutely brilliant and they are also organic or contain as many natural ingredients as possible. So I thought I would share some of my favourite natural and organic products with you today!

My Favourite Natural & Organic Skincare Products

Tea & Tonic Saving Grace Rich Face Oil

*Gifted

I bloody love a face oil and I use them pretty much every day, both morning and evening. People often think that you should stay away from oils if you have oily skin, but actually, the opposite is true as your skin produces more oil when it is lacking. I have quite dry skin, particularly over the winter and oils work brilliantly for me, too to hydrate and nourish my skin.

This oil from Tea & Tonic is absolutely gorgeous. I use it before bed after cleansing and using a serum and I wake up with beautifully soft skin. It smells amazing too – it reminds me of a spa – and it’s such a relaxing scent that’s great at bedtime. It’s lovely and rich without being greasy and absorbs really quickly into the skin. It’s so enjoyable to use in the evenings.

Saving Grace face oil is 100% natural and aims to restore skin, leaving it smooth, supple and comfortable. It is full of antioxidants and nutrients and contains vitamins C and E and omega fatty acids, including Gamma Linolenic Acid, which is known to help with elasticity.

This natural skin care product contains over 80% seed oils sourced from UK farms, including Borage (also known as Starflower oil), Crambe Abyssinian and cold-pressed Camelina Oil. These are all grown as part of the Bee Friendly project with the RHS, which helps local ecosystems by supporting a healthy Bee population.

Tea & Tonic are a British brand based in the Surrey Hills, and all of their skincare contains British-grown actives sourced from local growers and their own herbalist’s medicine garden. They infuse their herbal oils with these actives creating unique products with the highest level of freshness and potency.

All of Tea & Tonics products have completely natural ingredients and are vegan-friendly and cruelty-free.

They take as much care as possible to look after our planet within their business, and their number one aim is to reduce their carbon footprint, and meanwhile, they offset their impact to a forest in the Highlands – one that they source raw ingredients from, which I love. All of their packaging is recyclable, biodegradable or compostable too.

I love how ethical and sustainable they are as a business, supporting small local farmers and Co-ops and consistently doing more to get even better.

The Saving Grace Rich Face Oil is gorgeous and I look forward to using it every night. Their other products sound lovely too and I’d really like to try the cleansing balm, in particular.

Angela Langford Eye Oil and Night Balm

A few years ago I was sent this product from Angela Langford and I have bought it myself numerous times since and I hate it when I run out. Angel Eyes is a nourishing eye oil so you would use it instead of an eye cream and I love it, especially for when my eyes feel a bit sore or dry, or in the morning when I’m really tired as it’s so gentle and soothing.

Angela was a Masterchef finalist before she took her love and passion for cooking to create an organic skincare range that uses the very best ingredients nature has to offer.

Angel Eyes contains cucumber, rosehip and argan and is perfect for the delicate skin around our eyes. It comes in a rollerball so it’s such a pleasure to use but quick too so it’s perfect for busy mornings. It’s really soothing and sinks in quickly and works well under make-up. It would be amazing to put this in the fridge so you get the cooling effect under your eyes, especially when it’s so hot at the moment – I need to try it!

Angel Eyes costs £19.50 (which means it hasn’t gone up in price in the last 4 years!!) which I think is good as it always lasts me a really long time as you don’t need much and plus it has great, high-quality and natural ingredients.

I also completely love Angela Langford’s Rest & Regenerate Night Balm. I had been looking for a night balm for years after Alpha H stopped doing their lovely balm (which wasn’t organic), and I was so happy that Angela sent a sample of this to try and I subsequently bought it. It is SO nourishing, leaves my skin silky smooth and I always wake up with really soft, radiant skin. It’s brilliant to put on and then giving yourself a little facial massage with your hands or using one of those Gua Sha or similar! I love doing that before bed – it’s so good for your skin and it really helps me to relax.

This natural night balm contains a mix of antioxidants, vitamins & omegas that get to work while you are sleeping.

Unfortunately, I can’t afford this all the time and I’m disappointed to be at the end of my second pot and clinging on to every last ounce! I would use it multiple times a week if I could but I need it to last longer so I have to ration myself!

Coconut oil

I am a huge fan of coconut oil and I use it for a lot of different things. It’s brilliant for dry skin or as a natural nappy cream and I use it in cooking too, but it’s also SO good as a cleansing balm. It is not essential when using it as a cleanser, but I buy an unprocessed, organic coconut oil as there are lots more benefits, especially when you are consuming it.

As a facial cleanser in the evenings, it is gentle and soothing, removes all make-up and dirt and leaves your skin silky soft. It’s also much cheaper than most balm and oil cleansers and a pot lasts for ages. The only negative is that in hot weather it does melt into an oil so it is a bit messier to use and so it’s particularly not ideal for travelling. But at home, it is so good. I scoop a bit out, rub it gently into my face and over my eyes to remove my eye make-up, and then clean it all off with a flannel, before using my serums.

Where to buy: Pretty much every shop sells it nowadays, but there are also loads of different options on Amazon.

Weleda Birch Body Scrub

I have used this body scrub for years now and I still think it’s great. I usually get it when it’s on offer as it doesn’t last me absolutely ages if I’m making the effort to scrub regularly. Weleda Birch body scrub is 100% natural and organic and contains natural wax beads that are non-polluting (those plastic beads that some scrubs contain are SO bad for the environment as they go straight down your plughole!).

It gives you a really good scrub without being too harsh on your skin. I do think it’s not the scrubbiest scrub ever – I often use it with exfoliating gloves – so if you’re after a grittier one see below instead. My skin does always feels lovely and soft after using it and always looks better too. I aim to use it once a week – usually only over the summer when I’m getting much more skin out – and I really massage my skin as I’m doing it to stimulate circulation.

I really like the smell of it; it’s fruity and fresh, containing grapefruit, citrus and cypress. Weleda body scrub is free from synthetic preservatives, fragrances, colourants and materials based on mineral oils. It is also UEBT certified which means that ingredients from nature are sourced through systems that respect people and biodiversity.

Organic Shop Body Scrub

Another body scrub, and a new one to me that is competing with the Weleda one above. I bought this recently when the other wasn’t on offer anywhere and I am really loving it. It was an absolute bargain and got brilliant reviews on Amazon so I thought I would give it a try. They do loads of different ‘flavours’ that also sound amazing – there’s a mango one, a blackberry one, lemongrass, cocoa and loads more! They’re all less than £3.50 every time I’ve looked, plus you can get 25% off your first subscribe and save order which could be worth doing.

The Organic Shop Cinnamon and Honey body scrub gives a really good scrub, without feeling at all harsh on the skin but it is quite a bit ‘scrubbier’ than the Weleda which I do like. You can’t really smell the cinnamon so don’t worry about it being too strong, but it does have a lovely subtle smell. It is free from parabens, SLS and mineral oils and is cruelty-free.

The one I have contains organic cinnamon extract, organic honey and natural sugar. The cinnamon and sugar have gentle and soothing properties, while honey nourishes your skin with vitamins to rejuvenate and renew it. I love that it’s in a tub too so that I can get every last drop out.

These do contain some alcohols and perfumes so they are not quite as ‘clean’ as some products, but the ingredients are 99.54% organic and certified organic and natural by COSMOS.

It is a brilliant body scrub and particularly due to the price I will probably choose this one again and again and also try some of the other flavours.
