Clients

You probably have a keen eye for something particular. Professional interior designers like Australian interior designer Helen Coulston, for example, will cover many sub-sectors. You’ll find these will be things like decorating with artificial flowers, basement remodelling, ceramic tiles, custom furniture coverings, and designing stunning home improvement concepts too.

It’s a huge market, so you have to know your strengths and your clients. Determine your niche, and research deeply into that segment. And you should be able to answer almost any question about your ideal client.

Logo

A logo is essential for any business, but when it comes to anything to do with design, your logo will give potential clients a deep insight into your natural style. Your logo is part of your brand identity and will be on all of your advertisements, marketing materials, products, services and your website.

Create a logo that speaks directly to the niche that you are marketing yourself in. And a key point here is not to rush this process, work with a professional if you have the funds available to do so.

Online

Once you nail all of your business basics, the next step is going to be your website. You can design and build a website quite quickly yourself using something like Wix, Squarespace, or WordPress. However, the more complicated your site is going to be, the more likely it is you’re going to need to hire a web design company.

It would be best if you concentrated on the speed at which your website loads, and the quality of your images. Have all of the relevant details easy to access. Information about you and your company, contact details, privacy policy, terms and conditions, and testimonials.

But the star of the show should be in your portfolio, so make sure it is spectacular.

Contractors

When you are an interior designer you will still be held accountable for everything that happens during the remodelling. You will need to ensure that you have only hired people that have all the correct insurance, and references, and are familiar with the niche. If you think you have found the perfect company, but they don’t have the right coverage, check here for great quotes.

Freebies

In the early days, it is fun and will also start your portfolio. Do some work for free or at a nominal price, you will then have a platform to demonstrate your talent and skill. Having satisfied clients will also mean that you can use real testimonials. Pitch to 2 or three clients that you would really love to work with and see if you can come to an agreement.

Attend Trade Events

Trade events are a useful platform for giving you and your business a considerable amount of exposure. Whenever there is a trade show on interior design or home & garden shows either hire a stall for yourself or get a trade ticket and go to network. Make sure you have a business card that you can exchange with others.

Expert

As soon as you decide to launch an interior design company, it would help if you positioned yourself as an expert in the field. The more authority you have, the more likely it is people will hire you. Start a blog on interior design, update it regularly with interior design news.

Have all of your social media channels up-to-date on all the newest trends, as well as providing inspiration and tips

The key will always be having a great visual identity and some intelligent marketing strategies.
