Psilocybe Semilanceata

Psilocybe semilanceata, also known as “liberty caps,” is thought of as one of the most potent types of psilocybin mushrooms. They have specific characteristics that help recognize them, such as curved stems and leathery-brown, large caps. The caps are usually either bell-shaped or conical, varying in colour depending on how much hydration the mushroom has received.

Darker shades are found in well-hydrated caps, while lighter shades can be found in poorly hydrated mushrooms. This kind of mushroom can be found in Europe as well as North America. A distinctive characteristic of this is that it can be found growing in pastures and meadows.

Psilocybe Cubensis

Psilocybe Cubensis is the most popular type of magic mushroom and is believed to be one of the best by avid consumers. This is usually referred to as the “golden teacher” and can be found across many places such as Southeast Asia, South America, and Central America. Many sub-varieties stem from this species, the most popular being malabar mushrooms that are incredibly high in psilocybin content, and have a quicker onset than most. Hallucinations can be described as vivid and colourful, with a lot of visual effects.

Psilocybe Mexicana

Psilocybe Mexicana is the name of a mushroom species known to grow natively in South and Central America. Indigenous people have been known to use this for thousands of years. Quite similar in appearance to semilanceata, this mushroom species has large caps with a bell or a conical shape. Usually, light brown or beige, they may feature green or bluish tones. They grow either in groups or solitary. They can be found in the grassy areas of forests, humid meadows, and even the moss on trails and roadsides.

Psilocybe Cyanescens

Psilocybe cyanescens, also known as wavy caps, are most commonly found in parts of the Middle East, New Zealand, Central Europe, Western Europe, and North America. This species has wavy and large caps. More mature mushrooms have waiver caps, giving a caramel colour when moist. These tend to grow in and along the perimeter of mulched plant beds, even in urban areas.

The world of psilocybin mushrooms is a diverse one. There are many different species available, all of which have different compositions and effects. Use this list to help you understand the various kinds of psilocybin mushrooms.
