How You Can Live a More Eco-Friendly Life This Year
Probably the most compelling reason to try to live a more sustainable lifestyle is for the simple fact that we live in the environment, so it makes sense to want to look after it. But eco-friendly habits can also help you to live a healthier and even cheaper life. Here are some ways to be more sustainable in your everyday life this year.

Solar Panels
Our homes need electricity to function, which happens to provide one of the best ways to be more eco-friendly, especially in summer. A lot of the energy produced for the grid still comes from fossil fuels, which are non-renewable and cause air pollution. Clean energy, on the other hand, produces no emissions and is renewable, so it won’t run out.
Solar panels are a great way to generate clean electricity at home. True, it’s not perfect, as the materials used to create the panels still have to be mined, but it has a considerably lower carbon footprint than other ways to generate electricity, and you can install solar panels on your roof to save space and get plenty of sunlight.
While solar panels aren’t free, you will save a lot of money on your energy bills as you generate electricity throughout the day. You can even get batteries to store some of the power collected to use overnight or during power outages.
An Eco-Friendly Garden
If you have a garden, you have a great opportunity to be more eco-friendly.
First of all, you can grow your own vegetables. You don’t even need a lot of space to grow some veggies or fruit at home. Tomatoes, bell peppers, and chillies all grow in pots and taste amazing when you grow them yourself. You can also use containers for root vegetables like carrots and potatoes.
Growing vegetables in raised beds is a good way to save space and to make it easier to plant and harvest without having to get down onto the ground. Even if you only grow some of your food at home, that’s food that didn’t have to be packaged and sent to a shop.
This also gives you an opportunity to compost your food waste, which provides some amazing, nutritious food for your plants and cuts down on the amount of waste your household sends off to landfills.
Finally, you can design a garden that’s welcoming to local flora and fauna by planting wildflowers and other plants that encourage bees and other pollinators. This is better for your local environment.
Carbon-Free Commuting
It’s generally a given that you need a car to get around. But driving cars is probably the biggest contributor to our carbon footprints. Is there another way to commute to the office or get around?
Public transport is an obvious option. It’s not as quick or convenient, but it’s often cheaper and much more eco-friendly than driving. Even better, you don’t have to find a parking space at your destination.
Another way to commute is to cycle to work and to get around. As well as being good for the environment, this is also good for your health. Just make sure you can get washed and changed when you get to the office after a long bike ride!
