If you want to have a magical winter wedding of your own, check out these simple do’s and don’ts to be sure you make it a real success.

Don’t Fear Colour

A lot of brides think that getting married in the winter means a palette of whites, reds and greens – the colours that are traditional at that time of year. However, there’s no reason why that should be the case. The thing about winter is that your backdrop is likely to be white and grey, due to the weather, so your nuptials can stand to have a little colour. The bolder you go with your bridesmaid dresses or the colour scheme at your wedding venue, the more of an impact you’ll make at this time of year, and what couple doesn’t want their wedding to be memorable?

Do Wrap Up

While we’re on the subject of wedding outfits, when you’re planning a winter affair, you need to plan for warmth too. That doesn’t mean that you have to forgo the usual attire for weddings which tends to be on the lighter side. It just means that you need to accessorize bridesmaids dresses with boleros, your wedding dress with a warming muff…well you get the idea. Oh, and if it’s likely to snow or lash down with rain, you might want to pick out some stylish boots or wellies to wear when you’re walking from car to venue, just in case.

Don’t Worry About the Weather

Choosing a winter wedding comes with the inherent risk of terrible weather, but you shouldn’t let this worry you. Get wedding insurance, so that should your venue be flooded or you get snowed in, you’ll be covered, and then look on the bright side like how magical your venue will look with a covering of snow or how cosy you’ll all be at the reception. In this country, it’s just as likely to be a washout in summer as it is in winter, so plan for the worst, but relax.

Do Plan a Cosy Reception

The best thing about winter weddings is the level of cosiness you can create at the reception. There’s something so romantic about cosying up indoors when its cold outdoors that you simply can not replicate in the summer. Of course, the cosiness doesn’t just happen – you have to plan it. Candles, velvet ribbons, pillows and throws, fairy lights – they are just a few things that can help create a romantic winter ambience at your venue.

Don’t Leave Them Out in the Cold

One of the biggest challenges of planning a winter wedding is ensuring guests aren’t left out in the cold. Choosing a venue with a decent-sized entryway can really help with this, but if that isn’t possible, work out a space where guests can line up to greet you inside. You may also want to set up some kind of gazebo area for smokers, and if you’ll need to travel between ceremony and venue, even if it’s only a short walk, think about laying on transport.

Enjoy your wonderful winter wedding!
