Five Rustic Ideas for Your Christmas Decorations

Christmas is a time for injecting warmth and love into the home. But if all of your décor looks a little bit on the cold and sterile side, it can be difficult to create the perfect ambience.

A rustic, woodlandish Christmas theme often helps to make the season nice and cosy in a tasteful way. But what elements might help you establish this festive vibe? Let’s take a look at a few important ones.

Icicle lights

Frosted icicle lights are the perfect Christmas lights for your rustic theme. Not only do they give your house a beautiful glow, but they also make your home look like an elegant winter wonderland. Outdoor icicle lights are traditionally hung beneath eaves, but you might also drape them around mantels and above windows. Look for a warm, off-white hue for that cosy yet stylish aesthetic.

Greenery

Ideally, you’ll incorporate real greenery within your Christmas decorations this Winter, but for some, this isn’t realistic. The advantage of fake trees, wreaths and other decorations is that they can be reused each year, making them more cost and time-effective. Whether real or faux, bring your woodlands theme to life with natural wreaths, table runners and evergreen branches.

Dried Citrus

Dried slices of oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruits are all lovely touches to your decorations as they provide a pop of colour. They’re beautiful to look at, and no two specimens ever look quite alike. Provided you have a few hours spare to dry them in the oven, these are also easy to make. They’re intensely aromatic, so they’re sure to give your home a deliciously festive fragrance. Thread them on your garlands and tinsel, and use them to garnish your Christmas cocktails.

Twigs

The great thing about using foraged twigs as decorations is that it’s free! You won’t create any waste, and you’ll make memories with the family when foraging for them. Look for the straightest twigs you can find and craft them into stars, snowflakes, and other geometric designs. Glue those designs together and cover them in spray paint and glitter. Or, if you really want to embrace the natural aesthetic, leave them unpainted and use

Lots of Candles

As human beings, we’re naturally adapted to find firelight soothing. Pick out candles in a range of earthy colours and fragrances, adorn them with the right foliage and place them around your home. This way, you’ll create the perfect lighting as well as an eye-catching, woodlandish centrepiece. Be aware of fire safety when you’re doing this, of course. It’s always better to be safe than sorry when you’re dealing with open flames, especially at Christmas!
