Birds & Lilies Christmas Gift Guide 2023

Food & Drink Gift Ideas

Rock Rose Gin Winter Edition

This Rock Rose gin makes a really lovely gift for a gin lover. Dunnet Bay Distillers have created a winter edition of their delicious Rock Rose Gin. Perfect for Christmastime, it features spruce tips as a hero botanical, adding fragrant pine notes to this juniper-led earthy gin.

The Winter Edition gin has been created with thoughts of bracing walks, roaring fires and dark nights in mind – all of which I love to enjoy during the colder months, as well as plenty of gin!

The suggested serve is with tonic and garnished with fresh apple or toasted sage, both of which sound so tasty!

Dunnet Bay Distillers also do a refill pouch for their gins, saving you money and helping the environment; the pouches can be returned to them for free to be fully recycled!

The multi-award-winning Dunnet Bay Distillers is located in the wilderness of the far north of Scotland. They create spirits that celebrate the heritage and provenance of Caithness, and they pride themselves on using local hand-foraged botanicals.

This is a great gift for a gin lover this Christmas – I know I’d love to find it under the tree.

Where to buy: Dunnet Bay Distillers or Amazon £39

Tower Vortx Dual Basket Air Fryer

Everyone who has an air fryer seems to rave about them, and everyone who doesn’t have one seems to want one, so this would make a brilliant gift for those who fall into the second category.

An air fryer cooks healthier food faster whilst also saving on energy costs, and this Tower Vortx Dual Basket Air Fryer has loads of great features.

This large 7.6L Air Fryer has 6 preset functions and dual basket technology, including Smart Finish, which means that you can set it so that your food in each basket is ready at the same time.

You don’t need much (if any) oil, so it’s a much healthier way of cooking, but you still get all the flavour as well as lots of crispiness.

It’s really simple to set up and straightforward to use right out of the box, and I’ve been enjoying cooking more and getting dinner on the table much more quickly! Whilst I’ve only used the air fryer setting so far, you can also use it to roast, bake, dehydrate, defrost and reheat!

Where to buy: Tower £129.99, currently £79.99

Unwins Homegrown Gin Cocktail Garden Kit

Another one for the gin lovers in your life, the Unwins Homegrown Gin Cocktail Garden Kit allows you to grow your own botanicals to add to your G&T.

The pretty wooden box for your windowsill contains everything you need to grow delicious botanicals that you can add to your gin and tonic, creating lots of tasty variations.

The kit includes mint, basil, lemon balm and orange-scented thyme seed sachets to grow (which all sound delicious in a gin and tonic, and I can’t wait to try them!), plastic pots, labels, compost, as well as gin infusion bags and recipe cards.

It’s a lovely, thoughtful gift for anyone in your life who enjoys a good gin.

Where to buy: Amazon or Marshalls Garden £12.99

ōForest Madhūka Starter Kit Bundle

I’d never heard of Madhūka before, but it sounds delicious and has loads of health benefits, too. Madhūka is a naturally sweet caramel sprinkle found in the forests of India and used for centuries by locals.

This natural superfood is said to be tastier than cacao and be better for you than caramel, with a nutty, caramel-like taste, and contains vitamins, minerals and fibre, along with natural sugars.

Madhūka, more commonly known as Mahua, meaning nectar, is the flower of a tree with many health properties that local communities enjoy in food, medicine and beauty.

ōForest is a new food brand which is hunting down unique ingredients from the world’s forests and creating delicious products.

Madhūka is their first range and includes a range of plant-based teas as well as Madhūka Nibs and Madhūka Powder (to add flavour to baking, smoothies and more).

Madhūka Nibs have a crunchy texture and bittersweet flavour and make a great snack or topping for breakfasts, yoghurt bowls and desserts. Madhūka Powder is rich in vitamins and minerals and provides a flavoursome addition to smoothies and porridges, as well as in baking and marinades.

The Madhūka Starter Kit gives you a chance to try all three of their Madhūka products, and it makes a great gift, particularly for someone into health and wellness and trying new things!

The starter kit contains:

• 100 g Madhūka Nibs
• 125 g Madhūka Powder
• Madhūka ‘Earth’ Tea

Where to buy: ōForest £20

Kelly Loves Korean Variety Box

I love Asian food, and this Korean Variety Box from Kelly Loves really appeals to me. It contains snacks, meals and drinks, including ramen, nori snacks, green ice tea, kimchi and more to give you a taste of Korea. The products are all palm oil, MSG- and GMO-free, too.

Kelly Loves offer a wide range of authentic and clean Asian food, and I really want to try making sushi for the first time with one of their great kits. They have a great range of foodie gifts and smaller stocking fillers available this Christmas.

Where to buy: Kelly Loves £28.99

CleanCo Clean G Rhubarb Non-Alcoholic Gin

I bought some CleanCo a few months ago now and have really enjoyed drinking them as an alternative to alcohol, but also just as a lovely drink. I’ve made many ‘clean’ Margarita’s with their ‘Clean T’ – a non-alcoholic Tequila and they are so tasty! I feel like I’m still enjoying alcohol when I have them, but with less guilt!

Clean G Rhubarb is another of CleanCo’s brilliant products, created by entrepreneur and British TV personality Spencer Matthews (I’m a big fan of his wife, Vogue Williams and her podcast with Joanne McNally!).

This pink drink is made in small copper pot gin stills and is bursting with fruity aromas of London dry gin, rhubarb and red berries, and goes perfectly with tonic and garnished with fresh lime and raspberries!

CleanCo Clean G Rhubarb won gold at the IWSC (International Wines and Spirits Competition) in 2021.

All of their non-alcoholic spirits are low in calories and contain no sugar or sweeteners, and they are also vegan and lactose and gluten-free. They really do taste good, so they make a lovely drink to enjoy this Christmas either an alternative to alcohol if you are driving or just want to drink less (or don’t drink at all), are pregnant over Christmas and feel like you are missing out, or just as a tasty drink!

Where to buy: CleanCo and selected supermarkets £16

Ombar Chocolate

Ombar is all about making great quality chocolate that moves away from chocolate as the cheap, sugary junk food it has become and instead creating cacao-rich, nutrient-dense chocolate that is as sustainable as possible.

They don’t roast their cacao beans as the nutrients and minerals are damaged by heat, so instead, they use unroasted cacao processed at cool temperatures.

All of their ingredients are vegan and organic and use whole, unrefined coconut sugar – a healthier alternative to the refined sugar in most chocolate. They even add probiotics to some of their chocolate bars!

For Christmas, they have created a winter edition Spiced Orange and Hazelnut Truffle bar, as well as these cute baubles that make a great stocking filler or for hanging on the Christmas tree. They contain 16 mini bars of delicious organic and Fairtrade chocolate in fully recyclable and plastic-free packaging.

Ombar is a really ethical company, only sourcing cacao from cooperatives owned by farmers growing a variety of crops, never large monoculture plantations. They pay higher than fair trade prices for native Ecuadorian cacao, which means they are able to offer farmers a stable income, and this additional premium goes straight to projects that benefit their local community as they are all part of the global Fairtrade scheme.

For all of their chocolate sold, they donate to Fundación Jocotoco’s reforestation of rainforest in Ecuador, where they sustainably source their cacao.

Honestly, the chocolate is so good – rich and tasty without having that bitterness that dark chocolate has and the flavours I’ve tried have all been so delicious. I’m going to order some of the Christmas baubles to gift to family because the tiny bars are so great and yummy!

Where to buy: Ombar, Holland & Barrett, Amazon or Waitrose. Christmas baubles £7.99, bars from £3.29

Treat Trunk Snack Boxes

These Treat Trunk snack boxes are a great idea; filled with a selection of healthy snacks for either children or adults, as well as a new mum box, you can get a subscription to have them delivered monthly or as a one-off box.

I love finding new healthy snacks that I enjoy, and you get a great variety in these boxes with lots included that seem more like a treat than something ‘healthy’. The snacks in Treat Trunk boxes are always nutritious, delicious, and sugar-sensible.

All boxes are vegan, and you can also note any allergies or dietary preferences and include a message for free with your gift. You can choose from three sizes of box – mini (10-15 snacks), full-size (20-25) or a letterbox option, as well as a 20-snack box specifically for New Mums.

Treat Trunk is a small family-run business founded by Sally Wade, a mum of 2 and personal growth enthusiast. Helping to heal anxiety and trauma, healthy snacking has been life-changing for Sally; now she wants to share her joy with the rest of the UK. Labre’s Hope Soaps

These beautiful handmade soaps were created by a community-interest company as part of a long-term mission to support some of South Yorkshire’s most vulnerable people.

The range of soaps marks a significant milestone for Rotherham-based Labre’s Hope, which was founded by young entrepreneurs Aaron Probert and Joash Nelson Piercy earlier this year in a bid to provide vital support to tackle long-term homelessness as well as offer a unique chance for individuals who have found themselves living on the streets to rebuild their lives.

Working in close collaboration with the South Yorkshire Housing Association and homeless charity Crisis, Labre’s Hope has successfully supported 18 people and currently employs 13 members of staff, all of whom have been affected by homelessness.

Each employee receives a living wage to help them secure a home of their own and is also supported by weekly coaching and well-being sessions to help them learn the skills needed to enjoy a clean start to their lives.  Face-to-face employment support is also provided to help them realise their career goals.

This range of soaps features five different scents designed to help relax, reinvigorate, and refresh. They are manufactured using plant-based, sustainably sourced materials. The soaps are specially formulated to be gentle on the skin and avoid using products that are harmful to the environment, such as palm oil, commonly used in soap production.

I love how the brand is raising awareness of homelessness, actively supporting and employing people who have been affected, and equipping them with the vital skills to help them rebuild their lives.

The soaps are all beautiful and smell wonderful, and make such a brilliant gift. Solid soaps are becoming a lot more popular again as they are free from all the plastic packaging you get with a shower gel or hand soap.

By purchasing these soaps for a Christmas gift, you are also supporting a great cause and an ethical business.

Where to buy: Labre’s Hope £39.79 for a customisable set of 6 soaps

Moshulu Slippers

Moshulu is a Devon-based retailer selling shoes, slippers, accessories and more, and they make a beautiful range of snuggly, colourful and comfortable slippers that would make a lovely present this Christmas. I love these Tiree sheepskin mule slippers; they’re so comfortable and cosy and come in a lovely range of colours – I love this neutral tan colour.

Their mule shape makes them easy to slip on and off, and they are also super lightweight due to their EVA soles.

Where to buy: Moshulu £65, currently £55

Palmers Cocoa Butter

I have used Palmer’s Cocoa Butter products since I was pretty young and went to America for the first time, so the smell brings back such fond memories for me, and I still love using them now.

Not only do they smell amazing, but they are really moisturising and feel so lovely on the skin. They use ethically sourced cocoa butter, and the products are vegan-friendly.

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Daily Skin Therapy is such a classic product that moisturises, softens, smoothes and relieves dry skin. It can also help to blend and smooth out marks and scars.

The solid formula jar version of the product is so rich and lovely and great on the very dry skin many of us get in winter. The emollient-rich formula melts into the skin, creating a protective barrier that locks in moisture to leave the skin smooth and supple. It’s lovely to slather yourself in it after a bath or before bed.

New to me is the lip balm or ‘Swivel Stick”, which is also lovely to use and great to keep with you. It would be great for travel, too, as it’s so portable. It can be used on the lips, but it’s great for a quick swipe across dry skin, and I’ve been using it lots on my hands, as well as a lip balm.

Palmer’s Swivel Stick is based on the original ‘solid’ formula and has all the benefits of pure cocoa butter, plus is enriched with Vitamin E to smooth dry or damaged skin on the go.

Where to buy: Amazon, Boots and most supermarkets Daily Skin Therapy £6.49, Solid jar £4.29, Swivel Stick £5.13

Trade to Aid Reusable Sanitary Pads

A brilliantly sustainable gift idea, these reusable sanitary pads are from Trade to Aid – a social business whose profits all go to funding menstrual education and hygiene programs. Not only that but for every pack of pads bought, another pack is donated to a refugee in need of period products.

Sadly, as many as 3 in 10 girls in the UK struggle to access sanitary products and as many as 1 in 10 girls in Sub-Saharan Africa miss school during their periods, with many leaving school completely after they get their first period. So this is a wonderful business to support and give these great reusable pads as a gift for someone or for yourself so you or they can have a more sustainable period.

These great reusable pads are comfortable and secure, so much more comfortable than single-use sanitary pads, and so much better for you, too. They are also made of recycled and reusable materials, reducing waste and keeping plastic out of landfills and oceans even more.

Each pack of Trade to Aid reusable pads contain 6 pads – 2 light flow, 2 medium flow and 2 heavy flow, so they’re great for all of the different days of your period, and they are easy to wash and will last for years too.

Where to buy: Trade to Aid £29.97

VonShef Dual Round Waffle Maker

I’m giving this to my daughter for Christmas, and she is going to be so excited! She’s obsessed with waffles after having them for breakfast whilst we were on holiday in Portugal, with chocolate sauce, but hopefully, I can encourage her to have some fruit with them at home, too!

The Vonhaus Dual Round Waffle Maker makes two waffles in the time it takes to boil a kettle! It has a compact design and wrap-around cord, so it’s easy to store (which is so important to us because we have far too many kitchen gadgets!) or it fits neatly on the side.

It’s really easy and quick to use and also to clean. It has a cool-touch handle so you can check on them easily, and the deep, non-stick plates create thick fluffy waffles – I can’t wait!

I didn’t even know this was a thing, but I love it! The Rectangle Bioethanol Tabletop Fireplace from Vonhaus is elegant and stylish with the natural stone and a great addition to your home or the garden on cool summer evenings.

I love having a fire on, but we don’t have one in our house, so this is a great alternative to get some of that lovely cosiness and warmth a fire brings.

Even better, the flames are smoke and ash-free and can reach a quarter of a metre in height, whilst the wind-resistant glass prevents them from blowing too far.

The tabletop fireplace can burn for up to an hour and is lightweight, so it’s easy to move around whenever you want to. You don’t need gas or an electrical connection; you just pour some bioethanol fuel into the canister to create eco-friendly flames.

The Secret Life of Clutter Book by Helen Sanderson

This book is something I really need, as I’m sure many of us do! It is written by Helen Sanderson, who has over 15 years of experience helping hundreds of people to create clear, beautifully designed, well-organised homes. The Secret Life of Clutter highlights the profound impact that decluttering can have on our mental well-being and tells inspiring stories of people whose blocked homes mirrored a blockage in their lives.

The book recommends a realistic, simple approach to decluttering and building up to larger holidays and festivities, as Helen believes that the accumulation of clutter, both physical and psychological, is one of the leading factors resulting in stress during the festive season.

The insights revealed in this book will help you understand some of the factors that may be sabotaging your efforts to make more space. It will inspire you to take action and create a home that you love, a home that reflects who you are and the life you want to live!

It makes a lovely gift idea this Christmas.

It has a GorillaPod tripod to fix a smartphone anywhere to get the best angle, the Beamo LED light to make sure the footage (and you!) is properly lit, and a Wavo Mobile microphone which is compatible with phones to capture the best audio.

It’s designed to be portable and lightweight so it can easily be used out and about, and the GorillaPod mobile rig can be either gripped, stood up or even wrapped around something! You can also add or remove different parts depending on what you need.

Aspiring bloggers or Instagrammers will love to find this under the tree!

Edifier W320TN Noise Cancelling Earbuds

I love these wireless earbuds – they are so good, and having the noise cancellation makes such a difference. They are packed with clever features, including an AI Multimodal Adaptive System, which combines multiple sounds and algorithms to give the strongest noise cancellation, the best sound quality and the clearest calls.

The adaptive ear-matching technology detects your unique in-ear shape and how you wear them to generate highly tailored noise reduction parameters, which is so clever!

The sound quality is great, and they fit so nicely in your ears, so they are really comfy to wear. They have a brilliant battery life of 27.5 hours, can be speed-charged for just 10 minutes to give an hour of playtime, and can be paired with two Bluetooth devices at the same time, which is so handy!

These have actually replaced my (more expensive) very well-known make of ‘earbuds’ as I think they’re great, and the noise cancellation is such a huge bonus.

Christmas Dinner or Toy for Rescue Cats and Dogs

A lovely feel-good gift for any animal lover –  you can purchase a Christmas dinner or a toy for a cat or dog in rescue with animal welfare charity, Miracle’s Mission.

Victoria Bryceson’s charity, Miracle’s Mission, is a non-profit animal welfare organisation that works with sick, injured and difficult animals. Her mission is to provide a place of safety for animals in danger, to educate on the need for neutering both pets and strays and to neuter stray dogs and cats to prevent the birth of more dogs and cats onto the streets.

Miracle was a dog who was rescued from the streets of Borneo at one week old before her tiny eyes were even open. She had several injuries and was very weak, but she made a miraculous recovery and is now strong, happy and healthy, living with her adopted brother Ben and sisters Star and Tess. Victoria is now working towards saving many more stray dogs and other stray animals all around the world, starting in Borneo, where Miracle was rescued.

You can donate to Miracle’s Mission here.

You can buy someone a Christmas Dinner or a toy for a dog or cat, and it comes with a certificate to present to them. It’s such a sweet extra gift to give to someone caring, and it’ll make a big difference to the quality of life of a dog or cat at this time of year, too. I’m going to gift one to my daughter because she cares so much about animals, and she will love that we have helped one enjoy their Christmas a bit more!
