Let’s be honest; everyone wants their weekends to last longer, especially on a Sunday night when the working week is about to start all over again. In a blink of an eye, those two blissful days come to an end. That’s why it’s important to do something fun, relaxing, and recharging to get yourself ready for the upcoming week. Not only this but how you spend your weekends will determine your mood on Monday morning so that you have a good start to the week.

Think about it, it is pretty tough to stay all cheerful on Monday morning when you spend your weekends binge-watching your favourite shows with a bucket full of fried snacks as you end up feeling tired and a bit rubbish. Also, most people spend their weekends fretting about going back to work the next day. But we’ve got together some ideas for you so that you can hopefully avoid those Monday blues and make the most of your weekends at the same time.

No matter how much you love your work and how fast you want to climb the success ladder, your body and mind need a break to relax and unwind. That’s exactly what weekends are for. You might be surprised to know that there are people out there who can’t spend a day without working. That may or may not help your career, but that’s definitely not supporting your mental or physical health. And I think we can all agree on the fact that nothing is more important than your health.

When you spend your weekends working for long straight hours, your brain is forced to push its limits. This is most common for freelancers. You should know that burdening yourself with work, even on weekends, affects your mood, performance, and personal relationships. Having a “no work policy” on at least one weekend day will definitely be one of the best decisions you’ll make. It will help you let go of work-related stress and eventually boost your productivity too.

Now that you’ve dropped your work and assignments, you need to shift your focus to your wellness. With deadlines and hectic schedules, it is pretty tough to focus on syncing everything. During the weekdays, all you might dream of is getting to your bed after work and going to sleep. But you can use your weekends to pamper yourself and catch on to things you’ve been neglecting on your weekdays.

After you are done having a long good night’s sleep, start your day with breakfast in bed. Draw a long and relaxing bath using scented candles and essential oils. Spend your precious time taking good care of your skin and hair. Apply a face mask or exfoliate or anything else for which you might not get time on your weekdays. Try to use organic products with natural ingredients and your skin will love you for it. You can also go for a long-due spa appointment to recharge your energy levels and get rid of those knots in your muscles. Practicing self-love will ensure that your entire weekend is relaxed and enjoyable. Although it wouldn’t hurt so much to have a cheat day and swap your healthy stuff with burgers and cheesy pizzas, make sure you don’t get carried away. After all, it’s all about making healthy choices on the weekend.

You spend all your weekdays associating with clients and your colleagues. And there’s a good chance that you might not get enough time to spend with your family and friends. No matter how important your work deadlines and assignments are, you have to nurture your personal relationships.

See, after a hectic week, you might feel tempted to shut all doors and stay alone. Research shows that it affects your mental health and not in a good way. So, try to spend your weekends catching up with friends, kids, and family members. Plan a romantic date for your significant other and learn everything about their week. Ditch your phones and laptops to give everyone your undivided attention. You won’t believe how happy you’ll feel while having coffee or doing something fun together. You could also plan a brunch or picnic, have a bbq, or a game night – the options are endless. The whole idea is to catch up with friends with whom you might not find time to meet otherwise.

No matter how tempted you feel to sleep in all day and do nothing in your comfiest sweatpants, you need to resist the urge and do something you always wanted to do. The whole point of having weekends is to do something you might not get time for during your weekdays. Plus, doing something on your days off creates an illusion of long weekends. So, try having a running list of dreams so that you have something new to do every weekend.

The best time to do this is when you find yourself in the grip of “Sunday Scaries” and thinking about work. You can also utilise your time by making a plan for your upcoming week. Also, many people tend to stay home on Sunday evenings. That’s probably why places like restaurants, cinemas, and other entertainment spaces are likely to be less crowded. You can spend your Sunday morning visiting a cafe you always wanted to try. Or if you want to have a peaceful day, try reading all those unfinished books you didn’t have time for, or you could also go on a shopping spree and pamper yourself with new outfits and stuff that you enjoy.

Try spending your next weekend by using the tips mentioned above, and you’ll definitely find yourself bouncing back to work feeling rested and all recharged. You’ll notice that after having a fulfilling weekend, your weekdays are much more productive. So, recharge yourself over the weekend and be all ready to take on whatever the upcoming week has in store for you.
