My Top Destinations for a Kid-Free Getaway in 2024

22nd March 2024

We recently came back from a few days away in Prague, just the two of us, and we had such a great time that it got me thinking about other places we would love to go to, just us two!

I love going away with Ava, too, and generally, we will go away as a family, but it’s a very different experience from an adults-only trip! When it’s just us, we can stay out as late as we want, go where we want, and not have an almost-teenager complaining all the time about every little thing!

Also, I think it’s good for us as a couple to get away on our own and spend some quality time together, so it would be nice to be able to get away for a few days on our own, maybe once a year or so.

So here are some of the places I would love to go on a kid-free trip!

Prague

Yep, we’ve only just come back from the capital of the Czech Republic, but we really want to go again! We got such a bargain with cheap flights and a gorgeous hotel that we wouldn’t be able to afford in the summer months. It was so easy to get around on the metro or trams, as well as being really easy to get to and from the airport. That kind of thing makes a big difference when you’re only going away for a few days.

Plus, it’s a beautiful city to wander around and enjoy, with lots to see and great food and beer!

Ibiza

We went to Ibiza together when we were teenagers, and we had a brilliant time. It’s definitely somewhere I’d love to go for a family holiday (perhaps over the quieter North side of the island rather than the party town of San Antonio!). But I would also love for us to go for a few days away as a couple and party the night away like we’re teenagers again!

There’s so much on the Ibiza calendar for 2024 that would be so much fun to experience as a couple, and then we could spend our days chilling on the beautiful beaches.

Poland

My Step-Grandad was Polish, and it’s a place I’ve really wanted to visit for a while now. It’s become pretty popular over the last ten years or so with cheap flights available from the UK to Kraków, Wrocław and Gdansk (my husband actually went to Gdansk for his stag do, and I’m still a little bitter about it!) and I’ve heard so many good things from people who have visited.

San Sebastián

We’ve been to San Sebastián as a family before, and we all loved this beachside town in Spain, and we’re desperate to go back. The beach and the city are gorgeous, and the paved streets are great for families.

But it would be such a brilliant place to go as a couple too, as we could have lovely evenings out together, drinking and eating plenty of pintxos.

London

London is great with kids, but it’s even more of an amazing place to go as a couple. It’s so quick and easy to get around on the tube or walking around, and you don’t have to worry about little legs struggling to keep up or getting separated in the crowds.

You can do loads of sightseeing for free, including things that kids won’t be that bothered about, and there are a plethora of great places to eat and drink. We love Barrafina for amazing Spanish tapas and the Bermondsey Beer Mile for lots of good beer.

Santorini

Social media has made me really want to go to stunning Santorini, with its whitewashed buildings and incredible sunsets, and it would be a perfect place to visit as a couple and enjoy a break and some peace and quiet away from the kids.

We haven’t been to Greece since we were young, and I’d love to visit so much of it, both as a family as well as just us two on a short break away.

Porto

I adored Porto and am longing to go back without our daughter this time. It’s such a beautiful city, and last time we stayed at a gorgeous apartment with the cutest little balcony.

It was so lovely sitting outside at the little table with a glass of wine (or Port!), chatting and relaxing together. Porto is also great because it has a few gorgeous beaches just out of the city, so you have the best of both worlds.

Paris

I couldn’t write this list without including Paris. I’ve never been but have always, always wanted to go, and I will absolutely make sure that I get to go one day. It would be great to go to Paris for a few days, just the two of us, and do lots of sightseeing, croissant-eating and people-watching,

When I think of being in Paris, I imagine us sitting outside a pretty little cafe, drinking coffee, eating croissants, enjoying listening to people talking French around us, and watching the comings and goings of a busy city.

Is there anywhere in particular that you’d like to visit without the kids or anywhere you would recommend for a perfect couple’s break?
