Korean-Inspired Food in West Bridgford, Nottingham | Grounded Kitchen Review

2nd June 2023

On a sunny afternoon last week, we headed to West Bridgford in Nottingham to visit the newly re-opened Grounded Kitchen for some feel-good Korean food.

Grounded Kitchen is a chain of Korean-inspired restaurants predominantly in the Midlands who offer a healthy and nutritious ‘fast food’. The West Bridgford restaurant has just been refurbished and has both indoor and outdoor seating areas.

It’s a particularly great option in the centre of West Bridgford, if you want something tasty and healthy but you are short on time – say if you are heading into town for a night out and need to fill your bellies first. The food is fresh and tasty and there is a great option of Asian-inspired drinks including chilled teas, frappes, superfood lattes and smoothies and more.

They don’t actually serve alcohol which I wasn’t expecting but it does make a nice change! I went for a green ChariTea which is an organic green tea with ginger and honey, and it was really tasty and refreshing on a hot day.

The menu

The menu at Grounded Kitchen is simple and clear and there is a great range of options without there being too much choice. With most of the dishes, you can choose from three levels of spice to suit everyone – Bulgogi, Gochujang and Fire!

Two of us went for the Udon at different spice levels, which are Udon noodles, pickled mooli, mixed pepper, crispy onion, cashew nut, spring onion, coriander and sesame seeds. They were both really tasty, with great fresh ingredients and the perfect level of spice for each one and we would definitely go for these again.

I chose the Beef Bao which is Hirata buns with pickled mooli, crispy onion, coriander, spring onion and sesame seeds. These were quite tasty but I was slightly disappointed that there wasn’t really enough of the sauce in them and it was all at the bottom and not easy to spread out and I felt they really needed this sauce. I probably should have asked if it was possible to have more sauce though – the staff were all really friendly and I’m sure they would have sorted it for me. The bao buns also weren’t as filling as the other meals we had and I don’t think they would be enough for me as a main meal on their own but would be good if you were sharing a few dishes.

We also ordered edamame, kimchi and chicken wings as our sides and they were all delicious – the kimchi was really good added to the bao buns and they needed that extra flavour for me.

Ava chose a really delicious chocolate ice cream for dessert and I had the pancakes which were so good! I would love to go again and try the Smoothie Bowls and Quenchers, all of which are plant-based and each one offers a particular health benefit such as ‘Detox’, ‘Strength’ and ‘Skin Elixir’. I’m often in West Bridgford so I would definitely nip in for a healthy drink to take out.

The menu has loads of plant-based options, which is great, and includes offerings of tofu, tempeh, sweet potato and chickpeas and there’s also a Korean slaw which looks lovely.

Grounded Kitchen also do takeaway and you can order via their own website to click and collect which is handy if you’re in the area, or on the Deliveroo app.

The cost

I love that you are getting good, clean and fresh food when you eat at Grounded Kitchen and I would definitely go again, but I do think it is probably a bit more expensive than I would expect especially for the size of the meals which we didn’t think were huge (although we are greedy!). Your food is served in cardboard bowls with wooden cutlery which is absolutely fine, and great for takeouts, but you don’t go there wanting a posh meal out so it does seem slightly expensive to me.

But you do get quality, fresh ingredients, fast service and tasty meals for the price and I think it’s a great option to have in the centre of West Bridgford.

Location
