How Your Bridesmaids Can Help With Your Big Day

Your wedding day should be one of the happiest days of your life, and your bridal party are there to help you with this. The idea of bridesmaids is a really nice one. You’re asking some of your closest friends and family members to be a part of your wedding, and ideally, this means getting the support you need while showing your loved ones how much they mean to you.

Unfortunately, some people aren’t sure where to start when it comes to dealing with their bridesmaids. Here are a few tips to help everyone get along so the wedding can be a blast.

Choosing Your Bridesmaids

The first choice you need to make is who to have as a bridesmaid. Different people have different thoughts about this. You might prefer just one or two bridesmaids, and often sisters are a good choice for this. Or you might pick some of your friends.

Some people might get offended if they aren’t picked as a bridesmaid, but the truth is that you can’t have everyone in your friend group as part of the wedding party. Make sure that your friends know that you do love them, but be firm about your choices.

Another choice is the maid (or matron) of honour. As well as being someone you love, make sure your MoH is organized and will have your back.

Bridesmaid Duties

As well as walking down the aisle, bridesmaids should actively help you before and after your wedding. If you want to save money and opt to set up and decorate your venue yourself, this can be a good opportunity for your bridesmaids to chip in and spend some time helping.

Be open with your bridesmaids about what you expect early on in the arrangement. Being a bridesmaid is a commitment and it can be an expensive and time-consuming one. The sooner you have these conversations, the sooner you can deal with potential issues. If a bridesmaid drops out, try not to take it personally.

If your bridesmaids are first-timers, you should also talk about how the wedding day will go and ask for help keeping the party going.

Looking the Part

One thing to deal with early on is dresses, shoes, hair and makeup. Most bridesmaids get ready together with the bride, and it’s a lot of fun in the morning and sets the mood for the rest of the day. You can also get some really cute pictures as you get ready.

The most important thing to decide early on is the dresses. Find some information about bridesmaid dresses: do’s and don’ts, so you can find out the balance between something you love and something your bridesmaids will feel comfortable in.

You should also decide about hair and makeup artists. This can be expensive, but not everyone is great at applying makeup or doing their hair. Talk to your bridesmaids about what they’re comfortable with and give them options about what would work best for them. Remember, it’s your day but they are part of it.
