But that doesn’t make it an affordable option. Often, home education is for those who are able to have the luxury of being at home with their children all the time. When you have two parents who each work a full-time job, it is not so easy to be a home-education family. • Look for alternative income sources. If you want to homeschool your child but don’t have the ability to be at home all the time, you need to take a look at how you can make it work. If you currently have a property in the city centre, selling your house and buying somewhere cheaper in the suburbs could be a good option because you could live on that sales money for a little while, whilst you’re teaching your kids. You need to be able to think about how you can keep an income coming, so passive income options such as renting out your property while you live in a second cheaper one is also a great idea.

• Look at where you can curb your spending. Cutting down on how much you spend will help to save a lot of money. If you’re both working full time right now and your children are in childcare settings, work out how much better off you will be without having to pay for those childcare settings, even if it means you lose one income. Are you able to continue working on just one of those incomes that you bring in, whether it’s you or your partner if you can make that happen?

• Look at the three options. When you home-educate, you don’t have to pay for huge curriculum packs. You can look for free resources and materials and join a lot of home education groups local to you. You can find a lot of free materials; you just need to make sure you do your research to make sure that you are supporting their education basics and know that they are going to be getting the best-rounded education possible.

• Work remotely. There are plenty of jobs that allow you to work from home on your own time, which means that you will be able to work around your children while they are doing their education. There’s been a surge in remote jobs since the pandemic, so you don’t have to wait around to find one when so many employers are now looking to be more flexible to help working parents at home.
