Having a baby is an amazing experience but there are likely to be some things you may struggle with personally afterwards. Having a baby will change your body and with all of the hormones you still have, it can affect your confidence when you no longer feel like yourself.  It can take a while to get back to being happy with your body again and it can often take a while to get back into shape if that’s what you choose to do. But you can still feel and look good by choosing clothes that show off your new shape and give you the confidence you need. Here are some tips for dressing your postpartum body and looking good.

Opt for dark hues

The best suggestion for new mums who want to conceal any bits is to opt for darker hues. These outfits tend to absorb light and minimise shadows for creating an overall silhouette. You can expect to look a size smaller and smoothes out any areas you’re not happy with. All-black outfits make a great choice when it comes to dressing for a slimmer look. Stick to dark colours for the bottoms, though you can vary the tops with lighter hues.

Use prints to your advantage

There is a misconception that plus-sized women should steer clear of prints. Rather, you can use prints to your advantage as they get attention off from the midsection and balance your overall shape. Choose the colours and patterns wisely when opting for printed outfits. Look for small prints because they should make you appear less bulky. Small polka dots make a great choice for new mums struggling with weight issues. 

Treat yourself with the latest trends

There’s nothing wrong with that if it makes you feel more comfortable. Moreover, it doesn’t make sense to buy bigger sizes that will be useless once you get back into shape. So you can team your maternity jeans with chic tops and you won’t even be able to tell.

Accessorise creatively 

When everything else fails and nothing makes you feel good about your postpartum body, smart accessories can come to your rescue.  If you can accessorise creatively, it can help you to downplay any bulges and weight that you’re not comfortable with right now. Throwing on a statement necklace, wearing your favourite pair hoops and a nice pair of embellished sandals can elevate an ordinary outfit.
