Do You Have a Strong Enough Business Idea?

12th May 2021

A strong business idea really does have legs; it can make you money in the here and now, and it’ll still be turning a big profit a few years down the line as well. However, before you convince yourself that your own business idea fits this mould exactly, you’ve got to ask a few questions of it. After all, you need to be sure from the start that your business idea is worth it to both work towards and seek investment in – you can’t be dealing with a half baked idea that someone else can spin in a way you could never!

Have You Found a Need for it?

The first thing to be sure of is the gap in the market. Are you aware of the need for the product you’ve come up with? Or have you just listened to a few friends or family members complain, and think the rest of the market feels the same way?

You need to do a bit more legwork here. Identifying a need can be done in a variety of ways, but try to expand, and talk to people across the globe. Even just issuing surveys on social media works.

Does it Have the Potential for Growth?

Similar to the above, once you’ve formed an idea that could definitely fill a gap you’ve identified, are you sure it has the potential for growth once it’s been made? Can you keep on innovating the product or service, either in a manner concerning how many different versions you could release, or similar items that could be sold alongside it?

You want to capitalise on the profit here, and that can’t be done when you’re not sure where you could take your idea next. Think on the potential now, and don’t just save these thoughts for the day you’re finally able to cross that bridge – foresight is key.

Do You Have the Skills for Maintaining it?

Finally, it’s only natural that you’re going to be learning along the way, but do you have the ability to commit to this? Because only then, when you have a true, vested interest in your business idea, will you have the basis for forming the skills for maintaining it. Of course, research is a skill you’ll want to hone most here.

For example, knowing what tech could help you along the way is key too. Because keeping up with the latest tech ideas will help you to see how the market is changing and shaping, which’ll ensure you’re always at the cutting edge. Similarly, for example, investing in something like a mobile card reader will definitely help you to give more convenience to the customer, at no expense to your business.

A business idea that’s strong enough to survive extreme vetting, by both yourself and the outside working world, takes a lot of time and effort to come up with. Make sure you’re always asking yourself the questions above to help you along the way.
