A Parents’ Guide to A-Levels

18th March 2021

When it comes to A-Levels, there can often be a lot of pressure for students to deal with, from both picking the A-Levels to the actual studying. With the help of an A Level College in Cardiff, we’ve put together a parents’ guide to A-Levels, to give you a bit more knowledge on what they are and how you can help your kids get through them.

What Are A-Levels?

Pretty much the final chapter in most school children’s journey, before going to further education, A-Levels offer your children the chance to go deeper into their most favourite subjects, helping them discover more, as well as determine if it is something that they would like to commit to studying further in life. A-Levels are graded from A* to E, with exams taking place usually during mid-May to mid-June.

Studying & Revising

The deeper depth of knowledge that A-Level goes into, does mean that there is a lot of information for your kids to take in. Don’t let them panic. Help them get their homework spaces organised, and employ the use of a variety of studying techniques to help them engage with what they’re learning, from diagrams to games and colour coded note-taking.

Exam Season

Exam season can be a stressful time, particularly if the results determine just what the next step in a student’s life may be. You can help take the pressure off by ensuring that they keep to a revision schedule, that they know clearly when all their exams are, and that they have all the equipment they will need. It is also your job to make sure they’re not burning themselves out; ensure they’re getting plenty of rest, drinking lots of water and are eating healthily to keep their mind sharp and fresh!
