Why You Should Consider Moving to the Seaside

19th December 2023

With the sea breeze, beautiful views, and, of course, fish and chips, what’s not to love about the British seaside? Most people in the UK have happy memories from visiting coastal towns as a child, and many decide to relive this nostalgia by permanently relocating.

There’s just something special about living by the sea, and it’s a great place for all the family. Here are some of the great advantages that are important to note when considering moving to the coast.

Cost

Amongst this cost-of-living crisis, the idea of moving house can be daunting. Not only is the process stressful, but it can also be financially overwhelming.

Luckily, there are plenty of affordable opportunities when looking to buy or rent near the seaside compared to more urban locations. For example, new-build homes in Skegness or Withernsea are considerably cheaper than homes in nearby cities, meaning bigger and better options will be available within your budget.

Not only are house prices more affordable, but living away from the city will also curb your spending habits and encourage you to focus on family life.

Health

Living by the coast is great for both your mental and physical health. Salt water has many important minerals, including potassium, sulphur, magnesium, chloride, iodine and sodium, which are all great for your skin.

If you’re brave enough, you could consider a cold plunge in the early hours to kickstart your day. Research suggests that taking the plunge is great for reducing muscle pain, inflammation, and stress, so it might be worth sticking it out!

Residing by the coast also has a great impact on your mental health. There are more options available to exercise all year round as you’d be living a more outdoorsy lifestyle. In summer, you can even take part in water sports, providing you with a more active routine that positively boosts your mental well-being.

Family-friendly

Due to many UK coastal areas being popular tourist attractions, there is plenty to do for families all year round. In summer, there are a plethora of options for all ages; whether you’re into fairground rides, water activities, or even just sunbathing, there’s something for everyone.

Due to the lovely scenery, going for long nature walks is a wholesome activity all year round, and you’ll never get bored of your surroundings, even in colder months.

Sea air

It goes without saying that living by the sea is perfect for summertime, but what about winter? It might be colder and less lively, but the advantages of sea air are relevant all year long. In winter, the lack of tourists means there’s less traffic and therefore less pollution.

Breathing in this clean, fresh sea air can prolong life expectancy, improve our immune system and improve sleep quality. For this reason, it can be very beneficial for people who struggle with respiratory problems to live near the coast.
