Why You Should Consider a Family Holiday This Christmas

14th November 2022

Love it or hate it, Christmas is around the corner once more. On the one hand, you can’t wait to see everything sparkling, the beautiful tree, the delicious food scenting the house, and the children squealing with joy. On the other hand, it’s a lot of work in the lead-up, you know you’ll be exhausted and that by the fifth present you’ll be over the cute Pinterest-worthy wrapping.

There is one alternative you may wish to consider – why not take a family holiday this Christmas? Below, I cover some of the top reasons why you should consider going away and escaping your usual festivities at home.

You won’t need to entertain

If entertaining the in-laws and any extended family sounds overwhelming, going on a family holiday instead may be just the ticket. Some theme parks offer delightful Christmas markets or ‘winter wonderlands’ for that extra special festive magic. Little ones will be able to visit Santa as well and receive a gift, meaning you can combine all your normal planned Christmas activities into one stress-free package. From theme parks to holiday parks, there are so many different options to choose from for your winter getaway, so why not put your feet up and let someone else do the cooking this year?

Travel is good for you… and them

Travel is extremely beneficial for children’s development. Not only is it a chance to connect as a family, with 43% of families seeing travel as an opportunity to create new memories together, but it actually promotes learning and develops a sense of curiosity in children.

So if you need an excuse for why you’re taking the children away at Christmas time, here it is. Travelling together as a family is an educational opportunity that will allow kids (and parents) to broaden their horizons and look at things differently. It’s your chance to really come together and explore new places and interests.

You can have it both ways

If the idea of spending Christmas away from home is making you feel a bit uneasy, you can have it both ways and reap the benefits. Why not go away for Christmas Day, but rejoin later in the festive season for a smaller gathering?

This way, you won’t need to fully decorate or frantically prepare a menu that may be much more than you’re used to. Going away presents an opportunity to unwind and skip the usual holiday season stresses, meaning you can feel recharged and experience less pressure, allowing you to actually enjoy your smaller celebration when you get back.

Holidaying for the holidays

If you’re kind of dreading the festive season, you’re definitely not alone. Many parents don’t get to enjoy all their hard work at Christmas as much as they really should. Taking the family away for the holidays alleviates some of that pressure, is great for your kids’ development and will give you a chance for some wonderful bonding time. What could be better?
