If you’re scratching your head trying to work out somewhere new to spend a few days, Sheffield could be a cracking option.

Famous for its steel production and a host of brilliant bands like Pulp, Arctic Monkeys, The Human League and more, this is a cool city that’s packed with creative energy and awesome attractions for the whole family.

Here are three tips for a terrific Sheffield staycation.

When you’re yearning for some retail therapy, the shopping centres, designer boutiques and independent stores of Sheffield are sure to satisfy.

The Moor and Fargate city centre shopping precincts host all the big high street brands, but you’ll also find retro fashions in the Antiques Quarter, rare vinyl and chic cafes in the Devonshire Quarter and everything from fresh fruit to jewellery in the Moor Market.

If you want a wide range of shops under one roof, you’ll find brands like Boss, Apple, Accessorize and much more at Meadowhall shopping centre.

Sheffield is the gateway to the picturesque Peak District and it’s England’s greenest city, with 61% of its entire area consisting of green space and a collection of more than 250 parks, woodlands and gardens  ̶  if you love wide open spaces, welcome home.

The magical rolling hills and moors of the Peak District are home to a wide range of attractions, like the adrenaline-fuelled Alton Towers theme park with its white-knuckle rollercoaster rides, the lush ambience of Buxton Pavilion Gardens and the fairy-tale splendour of Stuart-era Bolsover Castle.

For something a little different, try the Critch Tramway Village in Matlock  ̶  riding the lovingly restored vintage trams is a terrific journey back in time.

Tip: hire a car in Sheffield with Enjoy and explore the city, Peak District and beyond.

Culture vultures will always find something to satisfy themselves at the Millennium Gallery, a gorgeous art and design hub bang in the middle of the city.

Permanent collections include an archaeology gallery containing local artefacts as well as Roman and Egyptian treasures, the Grice Collection of more than 150 intricately carved ivories, and a metalwork collection which showcases the tableware, flatware and cutlery that made Sheffield a household name in homes worldwide.

Contemporary artists like Richard Bartle are also regularly featured, so this is an ambient space which elegantly mixes old and new elements in a fantastic fusion that delights and inspires.

Tip: check the Museums Sheffield website for upcoming events to help plan your trip.
