Send Cards & Gifts, Whenever, Wherever With the Moonpig App + 3 Cocktail Recipes!

10th August 2020

I hope you are now all singing “Moonpig.coooom” from the advert like I have been all day! It’s definitely one of those adverts that gets in your head – my mum is always singing adverts when she’s here and driving me potty!

It was my birthday at the end of July, and I was very excited to receive a massive luxury bouquet of flowers and a birthday balloon from Moonpig! I hardly ever get flowers so it was so lovely to get some on my birthday and these were the most gorgeous bunch I’ve ever had!

If you haven’t heard of Moonpig before, it’s an online website (and app) where you can send birthday cards, gifts, flowers and treats to loved ones, really quickly and easily. They are so many great designs of cards (over 10,000!!) and you can make them unique with photos, customisation and a heartfelt message.

The day after my birthday I attended an online event with Moonpig so I could learn all about their app and the ease of creating cards and sending them and gifts to loved ones for special occasions (or when you’ve forgotten an important date and need to send something last minute!). It’s so simple and convenient to use meaning you can open the app wherever you are and send a card and gift within minutes.

The Moonpig App

Jasper from Moonpig started off by telling us all about their app and all of the features that are available to personalise your birthday card. I loved that you can create your card using your own handwriting and include doodles or drawings or anything you want! You write or draw what you want on a piece of paper and then photograph it using the app and then see how it looks – it’s so clever and a really sweet way to make a card more personal and would be especially good for kids to write a greeting.

If you have an iPhone then the app has a really cool feature which uses AR technology so that you can see the card in front of you. This gives you a really good indication of the size of the card you want to send – so you can see how massive their giant card really is before you send it!

Even if you get interrupted whilst you are creating your card, or you just want to finish it later, the app saves all of your creations so you can carry on where you left off even if it’s days later.

If you decide you like a particular design of card then on the app you can look on the back view of a particular card to see the designer listed so you can search for it. I think that’s really helpful and not a feature I realised existed but will definitely use.

Currently, not all of these features are available on Android phones yet, (serves you right for having an Android phone!) but Moonpig rolls out most features if they work well. Unfortunately, the AR tool won’t be available on Android though as that is iPhone technology.

I really like that you can get multiple cards and gifts for different people all in one order and send each of them to individual recipients or to yourself, rather than having to order them all separately. I’ve used Moonpig loads over the years particularly to send cards to relatives in New Zealand with cute little photos of them on the front of the cards, as well as to my mum and step-dad when they were living away. I’ve always found it pretty straightforward to use but I’ll definitely use the app from now on.

You can also set up birthday and other important date reminders really easily on the app which is so useful if you tend to forget people’s birthday’s often! There are even suggestions of what to write in your card which you can tailor to suit you if you are struggling for inspiration!

Flowers and gifts

Next at the event, we were shown how to arrange our gorgeous flowers by Roxanne from Moonpig which was really interesting and I learnt a lot. My bouquet definitely didn’t look as good as hers at the end, but I was much better at it than I was before!

I always think flowers are always so lovely to receive at your door and make you feel extra special on your birthday or at any time when you need a bit of cheering up. Having a beautiful bunch of brightly-coloured blooms in my kitchen really improves my mood and I love looking at them.

Moonpig’s flowers arrive at their destination in bud to preserve freshness and then they are guaranteed for five days (but will likely last longer). Mine arrived in absolutely perfect condition and lasted so well – and I still have a few of the pretty green and white ones in a little jar now, almost 2 weeks later. Moonpig do some stunning luxury flowers, but they also have a brilliant range at much lower prices that still look absolutely gorgeous, so you don’t have to spend a ton to treat someone.

They do some rainbow bouquets that have no pollen in them (other than the Lilies) which would be great for hayfever sufferers, a beautiful hydrangea plant which could go in the garden after they’ve enjoyed it indoors as well as some luxury bouquets as I mentioned before. The Luxury Summer Graden flowers that I was lucky enough to be sent contain no filler and is just full of a range of really special flowers, most of which I had never seen or even heard of before.

Moonpig also have a wide gift selection available to send alongside your card so you can find the perfect gift for everyone. You can also choose from experience days, letterbox gifts, and balloons, as well as special milestone presents for those big birthdays.

Cocktail making!

Finally, we all took part in a really fun cocktail masterclass with James from Mix & Twist and we had such a great time. We’d all been sent the ingredients and utensils, including this vodka which is available from the gifts section of Moonpig, to make 3 delicious cocktails: Summer Garden, Strawberry Fizz and Passionfruit Martini (my favourite!). All of which you can find the recipes for below.

I used to work in a bar years ago and I loved shaking up some tasty cocktails so making these was a lot of fun for me (I may have won the competition we had to see who could make the Strawberry Fizz the fastest!!).

I had a great evening learning all about the Moonpig app and all of their great offerings alongside lots of other bloggers – I enjoyed ‘going to’ an event from the comfort of my own home and not having to get dressed up, but still enjoying myself and having some lovely cocktails!

Cocktail recipes

Summer Garden – 45ml Vodka, 25ml lime, 25ml sugar syrup, mint leaves, cucumber, 25ml elderflower soda, ice.

Muddle together the mint leaves and cucumber in a glass, then add the lime, ice, sugar syrup, vodka and top up with elderflower soda to taste. Serve with a slice of cucumber and sprig of mint on the rim of the glass!

Strawberry Fizz – 45ml Vodka, 25ml lemon, 25ml sugar syrup, soda, strawberries, lemon, ice.

Muddle the strawberries in a glass, add the ice, lemon, sugar syrup and vodka, and top with soda and add a slice of lemon.

Passionfruit Martini – 45ml Vodka, 20ml lemon, 25ml passionfruit syrup, 60ml pineapple juice, ice.

Shake your pineapple juice first so any sediment is mixed in (this helps to creates the creamy foam on top of the cocktail!). Add all of the ingredients to a cocktail shaker, then shake vigorously, whilst wiggling your hips, and pour slowly into a martini glass.

ENJOY!
