After a long and balmy summer, autumn is once again upon us and Christmas is soon to follow. While there is no doubt that all of us love the holiday season, some may find it slightly difficult to adjust if this is their first year residing within a managed care home. What can residents and families expect over Christmas? Are there any unique activities to look forward to? These are two very important questions to address in order to fully appreciate what is in store. Let’s take a closer look.

Staying in or Heading Out?

It is first important to emphasise that residents will normally be provided with a great deal of flexibility over the holiday season. This arises from the fact that family members and friends are likely to be visiting. Thus, some may choose to head out with their families in order to enjoy a meal or to celebrate in their own manner. In the event that residents will be remaining within the care facilities, families are likewise free to visit during specific hours (these hours may also be extended over the holiday period).

All About Peace, Personal Connections and Tranquillity

Expect Christmas in a care home to be relaxed, jolly and fun. The staff members will make it a point to become festive and to celebrate the season with all patients. This is particularly the case in the event that certain residents are not expecting to be receiving any visitors. Everyone receives a present on Christmas Day and no one will be “left out in the cold”. After all, modern care facilities should represent a veritable home away from home.

Arts, Crafts and a Host of Other Fun Activities

Christmas is the perfect time for arts, crafts and social gatherings, so residents (and visitors) alike can expect to be presented with a kaleidoscope of fun and exciting activities. While these will naturally vary from location to location, here are some sure-fire ways to punctuate the holiday season:

Everyone will be encouraged to actively participate according to his or her own abilities. The bottom line is that no one will be forced to spend the holidays alone. Let’s also not forget that staff may even extend their working hours in order to spend more time with the residents.

All About the Holiday Spirit

There is simply no reason why the holiday season should be muted within any type of assisted living facility. All staff members will make it a point to provide a fun and engaging holiday season; embracing the new year in style.
