Staying warm in winter is something that people can sometimes struggle with whether it be in their homes or when they’re on their daily commute. For some great ways to stay warm this winter, you might want to carry on reading.

Dress in layers

Remember that long sleeve top you bought, well now’s the perfect time to wear it! Layering up is one of the best ways to avoid the cold during the winter, while also not needing to spend a penny. So grab some of those old jumpers and tops out the wardrobe and layer them up before you set off to work and by the time you get there, you’ll be feeling like it’s a toasty summers day.

Service your boiler

Making sure that you service your boiler is something that you need to keep on top of, especially when it comes to the autumn/winter seasons. Giving your boiler a service means that it will continue to stay efficient and even last longer, which will end up saving you some money in the long run! Make sure that when booking your boiler servicing you use a Gas Safe registered engineer and get a quote from a few different engineers as prices may vary. It is also worth checking if you have a warranty on your boiler with the previous installer that may include a free boiler service every year.

New boiler

A new boiler is not the cheapest option for staying warm in the winter; however, it may end up that a new boiler will not only keep you warmer but save you some money in the long run. The first question is, do I need a new boiler? There are a few factors that can contribute to this, such as:

If you answer yes to any of these, then it’s probably time to get a new boiler. It may seem like a high cost in the long run, but older boilers can cost you up to £300 extra a year on your heating bills. There is a range of boiler brands such as Ideal Boilers, Worcester Bosch, Vaillant Boilers and Viessmann. All of these brands are some of the most popular in the UK and are perfect for when you need to replace your old boiler.

Bleed your radiators

If you’re finding that your radiators aren’t heating like normal, especially if they’re cold at the top, then it’s time to bleed those radiators. All that bleeding your radiators involves is letting trapped air out of your radiators to prevent blockages that stop hot water reaching the top of your radiators. Bleeding your radiators is quite a simple task, and there are a host of guides online that can teach you how to bleed your radiators from start to finish, so I recommend finding one of these articles online and giving it a read through so you know precisely how to bleed your radiators.

Wear thick socks

Making sure that your feet keep warm is the best way to keep the rest of your body warm. A great way to do this is to wear thick socks while out and about and slippers at home. So it’s time to find all those bedsocks you’ve been getting for Christmas over the years and put them to use!

Staying active

Staying active is one of the best ways to get the blood moving and making sure that you’re staying warm when the weather gets a little bit colder. Staying active doesn’t need to be hitting the gym every day, and train like you’ve got a marathon coming up, but it can be as simple as cleaning the house, doing some washing or just some chores around the home that need doing. However, if you are still hitting the gym before December, you keep that going!

Heat your bed

If you’ve found that when you’re getting in bed, it’s like stepping into the arctic circle, you might want to invest in a few hot water bottles. Heating your hot water bottle/bottles and placing them in your bed wrapped in an old fleece or jumper is a great way to get those sheets nice and toasty before you head up to bed. Just don’t forget to take the water bottle out before you get into bed.

Eat some winter comfort food

Finally, winter comfort food! Comfort food is the best part about winter, everything from your Christmas Dinner to a homemade stew. Cooking a pot of stew at the start of the week is a great way to not only warm the kitchen but make sure that you’ve got some hot comfort food for the rest of the week.

If you follow these tips, it will make those cold and grey winter days feel a little bit less miserable and more like we’re back on our way to those glorious summer days.
