When you have been invited to a wedding, one of the first things you likely think about is what you are going to wear for the event. A wedding can be an amazing day and if you love to dress up it is the prime opportunity for you to dress to impress and feel confident for the day.

When choosing the right dress to wear for a wedding it is important to follow some simple rules and ensure that you don’t wear the wrong thing. A wedding is the most important day of someone’s life so it is important for you to consider wearing something that is classy, appropriate, but that won’t upstage the bride.

Here are some of the biggest dos and donts of wedding guest fashion.

Never wear white

The most important rule you will ever learn before attending a wedding is to not wear white under any circumstances. The bride and groom should be the only people who wear white on the day, as this is tradition and it makes the bride and groom stand out from everyone else.

Consider their colour scheme

Before you consider your outfit for a wedding, you might want to take a look at some local wedding photographers photos and look at the colour schemes similar to the intended wedding and see what people wear for them. It is important to consider the colour scheme for a wedding because the bride and groom might have a certain aesthetic they want to achieve with their photos and if you choose a widely different colour you could stand out like a sore thumb. Usually though, if a bride and groom are set on a colour scheme they will detail this in the invitation.

Showing less is best

It is important to make the distinction between a wedding and a night out on the town. The aim for wedding attire is to look flawless and classy, and not overdo it with things like cleavage, legs, or makeup. Try to stick to something that is a modest length and something with a high neckline if you can to draw attention away from that.

Choose a flowing fit

When choosing a dress to wear for a wedding, consider how long you will be wearing the dress as well as what you will be doing during the day. Usually, at weddings, there is a lot of sitting, eating, dancing, and drinking – and the last thing you want is a super tight dress that will hide nothing. Choose something flowing and comfortable that will support you all day and won’t make you feel self-conscious once you have taken everything from the buffet!

Don’t choose uncomfortable shoes

It is very important when you are at a wedding to choose shoes that you are happy to wear all day long. As much as heels might look great – often they are uncomfortable after an hour of wear and these aren’t practical for an 8 hour wedding day. Stay comfortable and put on your dancing shoes!
