Review: The Kids Toy Generator at Toys For a Pound

8th July 2019

Everyone knows that having children costs a lot. But as they get older and go to school, there seem to be constant birthday parties to attend and kids to buy presents for, as well as their own birthdays and Christmas too.

It can get very expensive, very quickly, and it can also be hard to choose toys for other people’s children especially those that are a different age to your own.

Toys for a Pound

I’d never come across the Toys for a Pound website before, but they have such bargainous toys and I’m not letting Ava see it because she’ll want everything. It’s perfect for Christmas and her birthday – kids don’t know or care how much things cost – but this way I can get her a bigger present and plenty of smaller ones without spending an absolute ton. I know what she likes, and like most children my daughter’s age, Ava loves fun little toys that she can carry around with her or anything creative that she can keep badgering me to do with her whilst I make up excuses and try to get out of it.

However, when it comes to other people’s children I’m often not sure what they would like or can’t remember what Ava was into when she was their age. This is where the Kids Toy Generator at Toys for a Pound comes in. I was recently asked to review the tool to see what I thought of it and how useful it could be when finding a gift for a child or even party bag fillers.

The Toy Generator is very simple to use and guides you through a few questions and then suggests some ideas to you, which you can select to add to your basket or continue to narrow it down further. I really like that you can choose for it to suggest toys for either girls, boys, gender-neutral toys, or to view them all. It really frustrates me when a website suggests dolls for girls and cars for boys, so that’s great that you have the choice here.

You can also choose your budget – not everything on Toys for a Pound is £1, but it’s all very cheap – as well as use the random toy generator to suggest things to you. It’s a helpful tool when there is so much great stuff on the website to choose from.

What You Can Buy at Toys for a Pound

I’m really surprised at some of the things you can get for a pound – things like ‘Make Your Own Plush Unicorn’, an Animal Sewing Kit,  as well as branded items like LOL Surprise hair clips (hideous but my daughter loves them), Crayola items, Shopkins, and Disney, as well as a foil art set also for a pound! Ava has had one of these recently and she’s loved doing it herself but it cost a lot more than this one!

There are also lots of educational stem toys and books and creative toys that will keep children entertained, such as a crystal growing set and vehicle construction set.

It’s a great way to get some things in ready for Christmas or a birthday and there’s so much I know my daughter would love. I could get all of her stocking fillers really easily from Toys for a Pound and I think I will be doing an order very soon!

The Kids Toy Generator is really helpful to find some ideas of what to buy for different ages and particular interests when you are stuck. The website is really easy to use and to filter the options to find what you are looking for.

This is a paid partnership with Toys for a Pound. See my full disclosure policy here.
