Planning a wedding is no easy feat. It is the biggest day of your life, and you want it to go off without a hitch. Sometimes, you end up forgetting the smaller details while you focus on the bigger aspects. Here, we look at some of the most important things to remember when planning your big day.

The guest list

Once you have said ‘yes’ to the big question and you have figured out what sort of wedding you want, the next thing that you need to think about is your guest list. This will have a significant impact on the venue that you book, the catering options, the entertainment, and everything else involved in planning your wedding day. Of course, you may decide that you want a small affair with just you, your intended, and a few close family members and friends. In that case, a small and intimate venue is all that you need. If you have a huge guest list, you will need a venue to reflect that.

Once you have narrowed down your guest list, it is time to think about your wedding invitations. To make sure that your family, friends, and loved ones can all attend, it is important to give plenty of notice and send them out in advance. Some people choose to send out a ‘save the date’ before following up with the official invitations a bit closer to the date. This gives people the chance to book time off work and make sure that they don’t book any holidays over that date.

The catering

Food and drink are a massive part of a wedding, so it is important that you get it right. Again, it all depends on the sort of wedding that you want. Some people go low-key and hire burger vans or order in pizza. Others prefer to go the whole hog and have a fancy three-course sit down wedding breakfast. It is important that you make sure that you find out about any particular dietary requirements beforehand so you can let your caterers know. They can help you with vegan wedding catering menu ideas and work around any allergies if necessary.

You also need to think about drinks. Will you have a free bar or a cash bar or a bit of both? Make sure you let your guests know either way so that they can come prepared with cash if they need it. Many couples opt for a welcome drink shortly after the ceremony and pay for drinks on the table and toasts. Of course, adding all of these also add to your budget, so think carefully about what elements are important to you.

The entertainment

The best bit of the wedding for many is the party, so make sure it goes with a swing! The most traditional forms of entertainment are a wedding singer or band, followed by a DJ, but more and more couples are opting for extras such as selfie mirrors, photo booths, and magicians. These are, of course, not essential, but they can add a bit of fun to the evening and make it one never to forget.
