22nd March 2019

Feeling shy around others, worrying that you’ll say something silly, paranoid that you’re being judged for how you look or what you’re wearing…it often feels like the odds are often stacked against you when it comes to feeling confident.

But did you know, that while you’re worrying about what others think of you, those people are probably evaluating their own performance and are too busy worrying about themselves to judge you. It’s not easy to feel beautiful in your own skin – especially when flawless celebrities make it look so easy (when is the Met Gala 2019? Click the link to find out) but don’t worry. Here you’ll find some really simple confidence tips, that you can adopt into your everyday life.

You don’t need validation from others

Like I mentioned above, desperately worrying over what others think of you and wanting to be a “people pleaser” is quite common. But in reality, it’s completely unnecessary. Sure, you might want the other mums on the school run to like you, after all, you’re going to be seeing a lot of them over the next few years, but you shouldn’t be worrying about their approval. Being your own person, being polite and not trying to hard will not only make you feel so much better, but you’ll also feel more in control and not so dependent on their validation. You’ll feel free!

Honour your body

Heard the saying – your body is a temple? Well, it’s not just for fitness fanatics and those who eat kale smoothies every day. Treating your body well is a great step towards confidence, why? Because if you feel good, it shows. So, make sure you’re eating right, reduce your alcohol intake, floss your teeth and visit your dentist regularly, drink lots of water and take an extra long bath. Your body and your mind deserve it.

Discover new things

A lack of confidence can come from feeling out of the loop, or just worrying that you’re not interesting. So, expand your horizons, and discover lots of new things. Read books, listen to podcasts on subjects that interest you, travel to new places and try new things. Exploring the world around you can really give your confidence a boost.

Goodbye comfort zone

Sticking to your comfort zone is the easiest thing most days. But you’ll never know what you’re really capable of if you don’t push yourself out of it from time to time. Doing the same thing day in and day out will make you feel frightened or nervous of anything new that comes your way, so try at least once a week to do something totally different. Starting a conversation with another parent in the playground, wearing that new lipstick, or even wearing your hair in a totally new style. Go for it!

Work on your posture

Take a moment to evaluate your posture. If you’re sitting slumped in front of a laptop or slouching with your smartphone then sit up straight and pull your shoulders back. Maintaining good posture boosts your confidence because you carry yourself differently. It’s also good for your digestion too!
