The Mysteries in Time Subscription Box: An Adventure Through History (& Win a 3-Month Subscription!) | A Review & Giveaway (Ended)

4th June 2020

We’ve been really lucky with schooling at home during lockdown, with our school being brilliant at providing enough work for A to do, so apart from the first couple of weeks where I was having to search online for the right kind of stuff to keep her learning we have had plenty to do and it’s all quite organised.

She does love the variety of doing different things though, and gets (very) annoyed having to do maths every day and everything in the same format. She loves to learn, but in her own way and she really loves the creative stuff (which I hate with a passion).

What is Mysteries in Time?

Mysteries in Time is a history-themed subscription box for kids aged 7-11 and it’s absolutely perfect for right now when most of us are schooling at home and trying to keep our kids entertained and engaged. Mysteries in Time send out a brilliant and fun box monthly, and you can choose between the classic and bumper box. The box centres around Max and Katie, who you join as they travel back in history to solve a mystery in the illustrated adventure story and learn fun facts in the colourful history magazine. History can be quite hard to teach at home (for me at least!) and we haven’t really been given anything history-related from school, so this is perfect for getting Ava immersed and interested in history.

What is in a Mysteries in Time Subscription Box?

The subscription box includes:

Plus in the bumper box you also get:

The bumper box costs £12.95 + postage each month and then it gets a little bit cheaper if you choose one of the prepay options. The classic box is £7.95 plus postage.

Our first subscription box was Ancient Egypt which we have both enjoyed learning about! It’s a really good box with a proper book in it, a lovely Tutankhamun pen, some clay to make an amulet with, a colourful and fun history magazine and some other fun activities.

Learn about Ancient Egypt for Kids in the first adventure which transports you back to Ancient Egypt. You will learn about the history of the Ancient Egyptians, mummification, pharaohs, hieroglyphs, Ancient Egyptian Gods and more. Learn about why amulets were important to the Ancient Egyptians, then design, sculpt and paint your own amulet from the clay provided.

Other exciting stops in history include: Elizabethan Era, Evacuees in WW2, Ancient Greece, Wild West, Aztecs, Ancient Rome, Victorians, Vikings, Ancient China, Space and Stuarts.

It’s a lovely subscription box for older children, inspiring them to have an interest and love for history and to get creative with the included craft. Ava was really excited to see what was in the box and get stuck in with it all and she loves that she has two more boxes to come in the post over the next couple of months. A subscription would make a really nice educational (and fun!) gift for a child as kids love getting post and it’s a gift that keeps on giving! You can also just choose a one-time only box if you just wanted to give one as a gift.

The Mysteries in Time box is perfect for Ava at aged 8 and I’m sure it would also be perfect for slightly younger and older children too so I think the suggested age range for the boxes is right. I think they are really well priced for what you get in the bumper box, and the classic box is also good value at £7.45 if you just pay month to month. If you just pay month to month then your subscription can be cancelled at any time.

A Mysteries in Time subscription is a brilliant educational resource especially for right now whilst children are doing home learning. The contents of the boxes are curated so well and they are presented beautifully in a nice colourful box, all of which is really high quality.

I know for me, history was something that I just didn’t find particularly interesting at school, but now I love to learn about it, and Mysteries in Time makes it fun and interesting for children to learn about it in an interactive way, without them actually thinking about the fact that they are learning! Plus it also makes for exciting post for your kiddos each month, which we all like to get, don’t we?!
