Mens Beard Care – Grooming Tips For the Busy Parent

18th January 2019

Walking into the world of fatherhood can leave a dad feeling a little rough around the edges. Help him look after himself with some important beard care tips.

A good beard doesn’t come easily. In fact, if it’s left long enough and not looked after, you might find yourself feeling something less than human! Keeping it in check can be difficult, especially for a new dad with limited time on their hands. However, being a father doesn’t mean you have to compromise on personal hygiene and tidiness. There are a few simple tips you can take on board to ensure you look preened to perfection.

Before we begin, it’s worth banishing a few myths of the beard.

No matter how many times people tell you beards are unhygienic, they’re not – if you clean them and groom them as you should, they’re actually incredibly clean. The same goes for children being allergic to beards – it may simply be the product used when washing it! Beards are stylish and dads everywhere should definitely embrace them!

Keep it short

If you have little ones, it makes sense to keep your beard as short as you can get away with. The last thing you want is your new daughter grabbing your beard and tugging – babies may be tiny, but they can be strong when they want to be!

Keeping your beard short can be a quick and easy job with the right razor. Electric beard trimmers or a good quality razor can help you get the short or clean-shaven look as quickly as you can say “bye bye beard”!

Keep it clean

It’s not always easy to spend twenty minutes shampooing and oiling your beard when you have the kids’ dinner to make or today’s bedtime story to read. You need a quick solution. If you don’t have much time but you really should do something about your overgrown stubble today, simply give it a quick trim and use a dash of aftershave to keep you smelling fresh. However, when you do have the time, shampooing regularly can be your best friend.

Moisturise

When you find yourself with a few extra minutes spare, try moisturising. A good quality moisturiser will not only make the skin underneath your beard feel soft and soothed, but it will also be much smoother to the touch. This is perfect for that delicate baby skin. Normal beards can be tough on it!

While we’re on the subject, beard oils or conditioning products are great to keep your beard disinfected and your skin feeling comfortable. It’s worth investing in higher quality, premium products, however, to ensure you get the best results.

Style it

If you wake up in the morning with a bedhead and bed beard and you simply do not have time to run the shaver across your chin before the school run, it’s always handy to have a beard styling wax in the bathroom cupboard.

Simply run a small dollop through your beard and voila; a changed man! If you split parenting duties, make sure you leave a bit of time for beard care and grooming to refresh yourself after a long week of work and daddy duties.
