Making Your Kids A Big Part Of Your Big Day

19th October 2018

If you’re someone currently in the process of planning your wedding, congratulations! If you’ve got a child sitting next to you on the sofa, pointing out all the prettiest dresses in your bridal magazine, the more’s the better – including your kids in the wedding day celebration, front and centre, will make the moment all the better to remember!

Wedding days are all about celebrating love, and the family you have with your partner in front of you, and because of that, we want to make sure all of our family is involved in the process. So if you’ve got little ones that want to walk down the aisle with you, throwing petals in the air as you go, and getting cooed at by all the other attendees, here’s some inspiration on how best to include them!

Get Your Little Boy to Walk You Down the Aisle

Or have your daughter do this, whoever wants to give you away the most! Have any other children walk in front, leading the procession, and then have your son hold your hand as he walks with you – he’ll feel included in the best way possible, able to stand up with his parents as they declare their love for each other.

It’ll be a good shot for the photo album! And this can be great for the groom as well, as having your son stand next to you as the ring bearer means he can look back and see just how pretty his Mum looks, and then let you know all about it with his excitement!

Get Your Daughter’s Opinions on the Dress

Kids can be brutally honest with what they think, seeing as they have no social filters and you’ve raised them thus far to always tell the truth. So make sure you’re putting their brains to good use in the planning process of your big day, especially if you’ve got a little girl on hand with a lot of opinions about what her favourite colours are!

Take her along to your wedding dress shopping day, have her pick and choose which dresses she likes the look of, and have her wait for you to come out and show her what you look like in them. And when her Mummy doesn’t look like a perfect princess or brave adventurer in the storybooks she likes, she’ll let you know about it!

Get Some Silly Pictures

A final quick point. Kids tend to have short attention spans, and they might just be getting a bit bored with all the formal stuff we like to have in our grown-up weddings. So why not just muck around for a bit, allowing your kids to pull faces and pose in ridiculous ways, to make sure they’re never too uncomfortable standing around all these adults in suits and dresses!

Remember, including your kids in your big day can be easy to do, as long as you include them from the beginning. This is their family too, after all!
