It’s Important to Create the Right First Impression in Today’s Business World in Australia

We go to work every single day knowing that the amount of competition is increasing every day that we are trading. The Internet has created many new opportunities for us but on the other side of the penny, it has brought a lot more competition into the business arena. It has become increasingly more difficult to sew up new business accounts and so when you get the opportunity to meet a new client, you need to do whatever is in your power to get them to sign with you and not with one of your competitors.

This is why it is so important to create the right first impression in today’s business world all across Australia and so you always have to look your best when meeting these very important people. One of the first things that people look at when they shake your hand is your eyes and if they are looking tired and have seen better days then maybe you need to look into some eye fillers to even out those wrinkles and lines that have aged you many years. This is just one way to provide the best first impression and the following are some others.

  • Always dress to impress – Whatever you do, do not turn up to an important business meeting with smart casual clothes as this will not provide the best first impression at all. If you are casually dressed then your customers may assume that you have a casual attitude towards their business and so they will take it elsewhere. Always turn up in a smart business suit to show that you mean business and that you really do want to get this new account.

  • Provide good body language – There are certain dos and don’ts that you need to be aware of when it comes to your body language. Your posture says a lot about you, so try to remember to stand up straight, hold your shoulders back and be as confident as you can be. Do not fold your arms under any circumstances because then you are putting up a barrier and new customers will not appreciate this at all.

  • Eye contact & a warm handshake – How you greet people will dictate whether or not you have great business success with them and so always maintain eye contact and give a firm handshake when you meet them for the first time. As you get to know each other, it will be much easier to communicate and there won’t always be an expectation to put forward your hand as a warm greeting every time. You need to show a real interest in what they have to say and assure them that you will do whatever you can to make them happy so that they do business with you.

As was touched on briefly before, it is very difficult to set up business meetings with new clients and in all likelihood, they may be meeting with your competitors later on that day.
