Ideas For Creating The Ideal School/PlayRoom For Your Kids

Source

Whether you home-educate your children or they go to school, there are plenty of good reasons to invest in a dedicated school or playroom for your children. All people, no matter their age, concentrate better when they’re in rooms designed for a specific purpose. That’s why it’s recommended that adults who work or run a business from home have a home office.

If you try to use a bedroom or a living room for schoolwork or play, you’ll find that it’s easy to get distracted. The living room might get cluttered and unwelcoming for other members of the family. Children might struggle to sleep because they’re thinking about different games to play or work to do, or they might be tempted by the call of the television or games console.

Creating the Space at Home

The tricky part of this is that you might not have the perfect place at home already. You might be tempted to move to a different house in order to get more space, but this isn’t always a great option. A larger house might be out of your budget, especially if you want to stay in a specific area. Thankfully, improving your current house is often a viable option.

In this post, we’ll explore a few improvements that can help you create a great play or school room for your children.

If you do think that moving house is the best option for your family, you can use some of these ideas to use the extra room you’re looking for. The fact is, it’s almost impossible to buy the perfect house for your family without any work. You always have to make it your own.

As this space is dedicated to your children, it can be a good idea to let them have a say in the design. They can even help you set things up.

Extending Your Home

A home extension is a fairly obvious way to create more space in your home. If you have a good amount of exterior space, you can add one or two rooms to your home, or extend an existing room and make it larger.

This way, you can design the future school or playroom to your desires and your child’s needs. Depending on your circumstances, you might build the extension as a room for your children from the start. Or it might be a better idea to move another room to the extension, then put the school/playroom somewhere else in the house.

You can also use existing space in your property and convert it into a play or school room. Loft and basement conversions are good options, as are garage conversions.

A Garden Room

Another great use of exterior space is to build a separate structure that can be used for your kids. You can buy a garden room or, if you’re handy, build it yourself with materials like OSB board. Depending on the age of your kids, this can become a fun family project.

Again, you can design the room to suit your needs perfectly. A garden room can be connected to the utilities of your home, so it can be heated and plumbed as you need it. You can also use it as a workroom, so it might be perfect for messier projects and crafts that need a bit of extra space.

You ideally want to suit your children’s educational needs and their hobbies at once. A garden room is often the perfect solution for children who enjoy getting their hands dirty and spending time outside. It can also provide some privacy to older children as it can truly become “their space.”

Multi-Purpose Rooms

Of course, creating the space isn’t always a viable option right now. Whether money or space holds you back, you might have to make do with a multi-purpose room. If there’s a room you don’t use often, it might be perfect for this, but a bedroom or living room can work.

The trick to multipurpose rooms is to change them as and when you need them. How can this work?

Room dividers are a good option for larger rooms. While it’s still one room, the divider can help your children get into the right frame of mind for schoolwork or their crafts projects. It also prevents mess from spreading through the house.

You should also invest in a lot of efficient storage. This way, everything can be put away when it isn’t being used, allowing you to reclaim the room when you need it.
