How to Sanitize Your Home and Keep Everyone Safe

Most of us wash our hands after riding public transport or going to the gym. After all, we don’t want to pick up everyone else’s germs.
But, unfortunately, our earnestness to protect ourselves usually ends the moment we step through the front door. The moment we are in an environment where it is just “our germs,” we throw caution to the wind.
As you might expect, this strategy isn’t particularly smart. Homes can harbour numerous disease-causing pathogens that are a real threat to your family.
The good news is that this post offers some solutions. We take a look at how you can sanitize your home and keep everyone safe. We explore everything, from how you wash your clothes to wearing PPE.
Wash Your Hands Every Few Hours
The first tactic to sanitize your home has to do with washing your own body – specifically your hands. The hands are how we interact with the world and they often wind up touching everything from door knobs to keyboards to food. Because of this, they have a unique ability to spread bacteria around your home, often in places you’d never expect.
If this sounds a little far-fetched, consider the mess kids make when painting with their hands. Rarely does all their splattering remain on the page!
Pro tip: wash your hands every couple of hours. If you have dry hands, ensure you combine your soap with a moisturizer (preferably a separate one).
Clean Visible Dirt And Dust
Next, clean visible dirt and dust. Small particles like these provide a large surface area where bacteria can thrive and multiply. Remove as much as you can by regularly sweeping and brushing. If a lot of dust gets kicked up into the air, use a portable or hand-held vacuum on your surfaces and prevent germs from spreading through the air.
Use Disinfectants
You should also use disinfectants in the areas of your home that need it most. These powerful chemicals destroy germ’s outer shells, causing their internals to leak out, rendering them harmless.
The best way to apply disinfectants is with a technique called fogging. Instead of just wiping surfaces down, fogging applies small droplets to every part of the surface, including the bits you can’t always see, and kills germs that way.
With that said, any form of disinfectant in your toilet or kitchen sink is likely to be helpful. When applying disinfectant to a surface, let it dry for 5 to 10 minutes to ensure complete eradication of unwanted germs.
Wash Clothes And Towels In Hot Water
Another technique to keep your home fresh and clean is to wash clothes and towels in hot water. Detergent combined with heat prevents items from developing an unwanted musty smell, something that’s common for many people. Washing in warm water is particularly valuable if you have children or animals in your home. These household members often increase bacterial load considerably, thanks to their playful natures and love of rolling around outside and on the floor.
