Learn how to create a poster step-by-step

To start creating a poster, load your fonts to your favourite design program. You’ll see how to design your poster with Canva, a user-friendly, online tool in this tutorial.

Open a new canvas and create a text box. Type out your favourite message here.

Select your favourite font and change the aspect of the text. You can see how this quote looks when it’s written in the Potato Pancakes font in the image below. This bold, handwritten type is perfect for this lettering.

It’s time to experiment with the background colour a bit. Try it with a pastel colour; these are perfect for a kid’s room.

Keep experimenting with the aspect of your poster. Changing the colour of the letters can change your design completely.

The composition looks good, but it can get even more charming. Let’s try adding two dynamic grids. Place them in the corners to create some visual balance.

To finish your design, change the area inside both your grids. In the image below, you can see the Seamless Star Doodle Background. This resource is also available for free at Creative Fabrica.

And that’s it! The poster is ready to print. You can also add a frame to give your craft a fancy look.
