How to Boost Your Child’s Creativity

1st February 2023

Whilst some may be better at it than others, creative thinking is something that we’re all capable of. We need it to produce innovative ideas, solve problems and think critically. It’s dealt with by the right side of the brain and is a skill that can be developed with practice. Childhood is supposed to be the best time to develop creativity and imagination. Here are some fun activities that you can explore with your child to help boost their creativity.

These were shared with us by a private school in Bath.

Arts and Crafts

Despite making a mess, arts and crafts can help children develop a number of skills – fine motor skills, creative thinking and problem-solving. It’s something which they will enjoy as they will have the opportunity to create whatever they like and express themselves artistically.

Offer Inspiration

If they’re not feeling too creative, look for ways that you can inspire them. That might be to explore other artists or people within the field that they’re interested in. We can all learn from one another and it can help us to create even better ideas.

What “If” Questions

What “if” questions encourage children to stretch their imagination and thinking. When they’re playing, encourage them to consider what may happen if they were to do things differently and explore those options. This will help them to think outside of the box and form better ideas having thought about the consequences of their actions.

Music

Another way that you may want to explore creative thinking with your child is through music. It’s a great outlet for children to express themselves and enjoy themselves. There are a whole variety of instruments and sounds that they can play with to exercise their creativity.

I hope that this post gave you some ideas as to how you can boost your child’s creativity. For more like this, check out my other blogs.
