Hart’s Hotel & Kitchen, Nottingham Review – 2026

Hart’s Hotel is a boutique 4-star hotel situated in Nottingham city centre. We’ve been lucky enough to stay a few times now, and each time I’ve booked, I’ve got an absolute bargain!

I’d always wanted to stay in the popular Nottingham hotel, as it looked beautiful and rather posh, with its lovely rooms and its own garden overlooking The Park and further afield in Nottinghamshire.

Hart’s Hotel & Kitchen is an award-winning 32-bedroom independent boutique hotel and restaurant in the historic city of Nottingham, with its own car park – not common in city-centre hotels – which is very handy if you’re driving. It’s also close to the train station, if you’re travelling that way. It is a dog-friendly hotel, which is always great to hear, as a family who loves to travel with their dog!

The hotel is in a perfect location for town, being situated on Standard Hill, tucked just off Park Row and near Maid Marian Way and Derby Road. It’s located just a short walk from Nottingham Castle and the popular areas of Nottingham city centre, with a range of tourist attractions, entertainment, shopping and a huge choice of great restaurants.

Despite its city-centre location, it manages to be really peaceful, with its calm and modern decor and welcoming reception area. It also helps that there aren’t too many rooms, so it’s never noisy or chaotic.

The rooms

The bedrooms at Hart’s Hotel are stylish, modern, and thoughtfully designed. The very comfortable beds are huge, with Egyptian cotton sheets, and the comfiest pillows I have slept on in a very long time – and they make it very hard to get up in the morning!

Rooms also come with flat-screen TVs, a Bose music player, high-speed internet, and small touches like fresh milk in the fridge (such a welcome change from those rubbish little UHT pots), free biscuits, and filtered water in bottles and the kettle! It’s bits like this that really make it feel more luxurious and a real treat to be staying. There’s also a minibar in every room with snacks and drinks available for additional charges.

If you’re travelling as a family, some of the rooms accommodate extra beds, or you can book one of the suites, where the sofa can be made into a bed, plus another bed can be added if you don’t want to have a bed in the lounge – these do come with an extra charge though.

We stayed in a suite this last time, and it was amazing. There’s so much space, beautiful views of Nottingham out of the full-length windows (as these rooms are on higher floors), two TVs and TWO BATHROOMS(!), with beautiful L’Occitane products and a robe each. We felt very spoilt.

Check-in time is 3pm, and the check-out time is generous at 12pm.

If you book to stay in a garden room, you get direct access to the pretty private garden from your room via French doors, which is perfect if you’re staying with your dog – and you get your own patio area with a table and chairs to enjoy, too. All guests can access the wider garden, and it’s lovely to sit outside with a drink and enjoy the lovely views. It’s a rare and peaceful spot for a city centre hotel and makes Hart’s feel very different from the bigger chains of hotels.

Although we’ve only had breakfast at Hart’s Kitchen, it’s worth mentioning that Hart’s has its own award-winning restaurant, with 2 AA Rosettes for culinary excellence. The restaurant used to be in a separate building and could seat 80 people, but now it’s tucked into the hotel and offers a cosier setting for only 20 diners.

The breakfast spread includes delicious bread from Hambleton Bakery (which also supplies bread and breakfast items to Hambleton Hall), alongside full English options, cereals, yoghurt and fruit. The breakfast costs £12 for continental and an extra £5 to include a cooked breakfast with that.

The menu throughout the day features modern British cuisine with locally-sourced ingredients, created by the head chef, and you don’t have to be staying at Hart’s to eat at the restaurant. They also offer afternoon tea, which I’ve yet to try, but it looks like a lovely treat.

If you’d rather relax in your room, you can take breakfast there for a small charge, and there’s also 24-hour room service available, which is handy after a long day exploring the local area.

The bar is open til late, serving cocktails and a choice from a wine list that features a diverse selection from small, quality-driven producers. There’s a lovely terrace area out the front, where you can also sit and have a drink or a bite to eat.

The service and atmosphere

The friendly staff at Hart’s make a real difference to your stay, giving you a warm welcome at check-in and being polite and friendly throughout, without it ever being over the top.

A special mention has to go to the brilliant lady at breakfast when we stayed. She absolutely went above and beyond to accommodate us, finding somewhere for us all to sit together with our dog (as dogs understandably aren’t allowed in the restaurant), making sure we had enough food and dashing back and forth to help us. She was so friendly, kind and genuinely helpful – a real credit to the hotel.

Staying as a family at Hart’s Hotel

Even though we live in Nottingham, we still really enjoy staying in a hotel in the city and going out for dinner as a special treat – it allows us to have a chilled time together, away from everything that needs doing at home, without having to travel anywhere – and it gives us more time in town without having to rush home for dinner.

I’ve stayed a couple of times at Hart’s with A now, and once as a family, and we’ve had a great time every time. A loves staying in any hotel really (as do I), and she’s particularly fond of a Premier Inn! But staying at Hart’s feels like such a luxury, and she’s really enjoyed staying there – as have I. It’s lovely to be able to go outside into the garden to get some fresh air and spend time together playing games or just chatting at the outdoor tables if the weather is good enough.

It’s also so handy that we can take our dog with us (for £15 extra a night, which is cheaper than some big chains!), so that we can stay last minute if we find a bargain!

The cost

As this is a boutique 4-star hotel, then of course it’s not exactly a cheap place to stay. However, it is a real treat to stay here, and it’s perfect for a couple to have a night or two away in the city, or if you are celebrating something, and you can find some very reasonable prices available.

There are often bargains to be had if you fancy a spontaneous night away or if you’re flexible. I’ve paid less than a hundred pounds each time we’ve stayed – except for when we included Scout – which I think is a steal, especially for a hotel in this location.

So while it’s not the cheapest option in Nottingham, for the quality and service you get, it feels like great value. It’s always worth keeping an eye out for last-minute deals if you fancy a treat (and Sundays are always a great day to look at).

Overall, I think Hart’s Hotel Nottingham is a real gem. The central location and the convenience of being within walking distance of everything are combined with the luxury and excellent service of an independent boutique hotel. It doesn’t feel like you’re so close to the centre of town and the hustle and bustle, and instead, you get to enjoy the peace and quiet, and beautiful Victorian buildings of The Park.

The rooms are all really nice, with everything you need, including luxury toiletries and complimentary snacks, and the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming.

If you’re planning a visit to this historic city, I’d definitely recommend checking out Nottingham Hart’s Hotel & Kitchen – a brilliant independent boutique hotel in Nottingham. It’s the perfect place to relax after exploring all the sights, or just for a lovely, relaxing night away in one of Nottingham’s best luxury hotels.
