Red Kangaroo Trampoline Park Nottingham | A Review

13th March 2019

During half-term Ava and I had a fun morning at Red Kangaroo Trampoline Park in Nottingham, bouncing and climbing and throwing balls at each other and into hoops.

We had been to another trampoline park last year but this one is so much better and Ava loved it. Red Kangaroo is a lot more than just a trampoline park and is one of the UK’s biggest parks. It is certainly big and bright, with loads of fun things to do. There are foam pits, gladiator beams, a total wipeout zone, slamdunk courts, dodgeball courts, ninja warrior courses, tumble tracks and more. There are currently three Red Kangaroo parks in the country, at Nottingham, Reading and one in Coventry which will open later this year.

What I love about it is that they do specific sessions for different groups; so the one we went to was for ages 2-12 which I think makes it a lot safer knowing there won’t be any massive 16-year-olds taking out the little ones. Although obviously, 12-year-olds can be pretty big and boisterous so I would love there to be a session for say 2-9-year-olds, but I do understand that they can’t do so many individual sessions.

They also do special sessions for tots aged 1-5, as well as one for little ones with anxiety, autism, sensory needs or any disability or access requirements, which I think is brilliant. In this session they switch off the flashing lights, turn off the music and reduce the capacities to make sure these Kanga Calm sessions are the perfect place for anyone who wants to bounce in a more relaxed environment. In both of these sessions – Kanga Tots, and Kanga Calm – the parent goes free (you just need to buy socks for £2).

As it was half-term when we went it was obviously busy, but it didn’t feel like there were too many people there and there were always trampolines free to bounce on. As the different areas are all quite spread out it never feels too crowded and we barely had to wait for anything.

The only thing it affected was the cafe area upstairs – the queues for food and drink were always long so we didn’t bother getting anything, and when we went up there weren’t any tables free even though there are lots of them. It didn’t bother me because I didn’t want to sit down, but Ava was desperate for an ice-cream. It was also really warm upstairs, so I didn’t fancy staying up there for long. It’s a good big area for parents to be able to sit and watch there kids playing down below though.

I know that some people worry a lot about taking their kids to trampoline parks now, and you sometimes hear about accidents that have happened, and I get that some people choose not to go to them. I think that the session that we attended for kids aged 2-12 really did feel safer and at no time did I feel like Ava was in danger on the trampolines. The only time I was a bit worried was as Ava was climbing up the ‘nets’ to get to the slide and there were much bigger kids above her so I was worried about a foot slipping from above and kicking her. But that kind of thing could happen at any kind of soft play.

The nature of trampolining means that you could get injured, but I absolutely loved trampolining at school and at a club and Ava loves it now, and I think it would be a shame not to do it because of the risk, as with lots of things in life.  We used to have a big trampoline in our garden when I was young and I loved it, and sometimes now I think about having our own trampoline.

You get to jump for an hour, which doesn’t sound like long but I promise you it is enough and you will be blooming tired by the end of it! It’s also a really great workout and I ached like mad the next day, despite not doing loads of jumping!

There are a couple of areas that you have to be a certain height for (I think it was 4ft), including the Ninja Warrior which Ava was slightly too small for. She was pretty disappointed that she couldn’t go on it and it did look fun, but next time she should be able to!

There are lots of lockers that you can store your stuff in, and they don’t require any change which I thought was good – you just set your own code to use. You are also required to sign a waiver for everyone in your party, which is standard for these places, and you can do it online before to save time.

Red Kangaroo is a great trampoline park; really well set up with a very good range of things to do and lots of staff around to keep an eye on everything. We had a really fun time there and we would definitely go again.

We were provided with tickets to Red Kangaroo, but all words and opinions are my own. See my full disclosure policy here.
