Fun Family Days Out in the UK

28th June 2018

I love going for a fun day out with my family. We love finding new things to do around our area or elsewhere and I love finding out about other people’s favourite places to visit as a family too, especially if they are something a little bit different.

So I thought I would bring together some of our favourite places to visit or places we’d like to go, as well as some other families’ favourite days out.

Fun Family Days Out in the UK

Emma from The Money Whisperer suggested BeWILDerwood in Norfolk as a brilliant family day out and it does look amazing; I would love to go and Ava would love it.

Emma says: “BeWILDerwood in Norfolk is 100% our best family day out. As it’s all set in the woods, and based on a collection of stories, you can build it up before you go and really get in to the place. It’s magical, we absolutely loved getting involved in the story time and face painting as well as all the woodland adventures. I was expecting a sort of woodland theme park but it isn’t – it’s an adventure playground in a beautiful setting with a huge dollop of magic thrown in. A magical place!”

Leigh agrees that it’s a great place for families and wrote about it here, and Suzy from Our Bucket List Lives has also written a really detailed review here. It looks like so much fun!

Rachel from Coffee, Cake, Kids has written about Llechwedd Slate Caverns near where she lives in North Wales. It looks like an really interesting day out and I’d love to try the zip wire there too!

I think a great thing to do if you have older kids would be a Track day – I would so love to do this one day and I can imagine it would be such an amazing thing to do as a kid, especially before they learn to drive! Kids as young as 11 can drive cars around a track all over the UK, and they start at really reasonable prices too.

Catherine from Rock and Roll Pussycat has written about The Forbidden Corner in Leyburn and she says it’s fab. It looks so cool, and such an amazing place to explore with kids. I think Ava would love it.

Kaye at Hello Archie recommended Faringdon Folly in Oxfordshire – “This small circular area of woodland surrounding a huge tower (that you can walk to the top of on certain days of the year) and the wood has all these different works of art hiding around. There’s a carved giraffe head sticking out of a tree, lots of crow sculptures in the trees, an abandoned piano covered in paint, a huge gnomes door on one of the trees – so many quirky things for kids to find, we love it”.

I’ve written before about lots of fun days out at Merlin Attractions around the country – we always have so much fun and it’s especially good if you have a Merlin Annual Pass! Warwick Castle is a great day out; there’s so much to see and do – I’d really like us to glamp there soon. We also love Alton Towers and CBeebies Land for the younger ones, and the Sea Life Centres (in Birmingham, Scarborough and London) are really good too.

Star from the Autism Kids on Tour blog suggested The Black Country Living Museum in Dudley which sounds so fascinating! She has also written about hiring a boat on Lake Windermere which would make a brilliant afternoon out with slightly older kids. It looks beautiful and it would be so fun to drive the boat.

Creswell Crags in Nottinghamshire was recommended by Suzy from Our Bucket List Lives: “It’s so magical there and incredibly picturesque. You can go on cave tours and they are really informative, especially telling visitors all about the animals that once roamed in this area long ago such as Wooly Mammoth, Hyena’s, Rhinos and many more that you just wouldn’t expect.” I can’t believe I haven’t been there or even heard of it when it’s so near me!

Have you ever been to any of these places or do you have any other suggestions for exciting places to visit with your family? Please share in the comments if you do!
