Buying Products for Your Little Munchkin? Don’t Overlook These Factors

23rd August 2021

Let’s face it, the current world is advancing quickly and leading people to have so many more choices when it comes to buying the things we need. More than ever, we have more modern and safer products than we have ever had before and so it it has never been so easy to maintain the health and hygiene of your little munchkin.

Many times parents overlook a few aspects while going for baby product shopping, which could potentially prove harmful for the infant’s overall well-being, which of course is something none of us wants.

So, here we have come up with the common factors that parents tend to overlook when buying products for their little ones.

Toxic chemicals in feeding bottles – Believe it or not, normal feeding bottles contain toxic chemicals which are detrimental to the health of your baby. Many researchers say that these bottles contain a high level of Bisphenol A (BPA), which can lead to behavioural issues and has also been linked to cancer. So, ensure you opt for the right baby feeding products that are BPA-free. After all, you don’t want to play with the health of your baby.

Check out the toys and teethers – When your baby is in the growing stage, they will probably have plastic toys and teethers that they like to put in their mouths and chew on. These toys often contain phthalates that could possibly enter the infant’s body. The chemical that is used to make PVC and increases the flexibility of the products is phthalate. And these phthalates are the chemicals that pose health risks to newborns like genital and urinary malformations and prostate cancer in boys. Therefore, be wise while choosing the toys and always read the labels.

Shampoos and moisturisers – Many shampoos meant for adults contain sodium lauryl sulfate that dries out the hair. So, it is best to never use these shampoos for your newborn. Sadly, various baby shampoos also have quaternium-15 in them, which releases formaldehyde – causing skin irritations. Hence you should go with mild shampoos containing surfactants. And remember to check for the no-tear formula shampoo for the baby so that it doesn’t cause any irritation to their eyes whilst you wash their hair.

Be safe with the nail clippers – Let’s be honest, clipping a baby’s nails is a daunting task. If you don’t pay attention to this one-minute task, it could hurt your child. Thus, select safe products that are durable and are easy-to-handle. For this, read the market reviews thoroughly before purchasing any product. Otherwise, a lack of knowledge can create difficulties for you.

Needless to say, looking after a baby is a full-time commitment. So, focus on each and every aspect when it comes to your little munchkin. After all, that is the way with which you can build healthy life and habits for your children.

Lastly, Maria Shriver couldn’t be more right when she said –

“Having kids — the responsibility of rearing good, kind, ethical, responsible human beings — is the biggest job anyone can embark on.”
