4 Dream Solo Trips I Would Love to Take

10th August 2019

As a mother, it is very rare that I get a moments peace or get to go out anywhere on my own unless it’s somewhere super interesting like the supermarket or the petrol station.

Beach, San Sebastián, SpainSan Sebastián, Spain

I love travelling with my family, of course, but getting to go away on my own for a week or so would be the dream. I could read loads of books, relax and enjoy my surroundings, and even go to the loo by myself!

I think it would be so nice to be travelling totally on my terms; to go where I want, when I want, and to just enjoy my own company for a little while. I also think it would really help to improve my confidence and get me feeling more self-assured, as well as hopefully coming away nice and relaxed!

The reality is that I am extremely unlikely to be able to go on a trip on my own in the near future, but it’s always nice to dream, so I thought I would share the solo trips I would love to take.

4 Dream Solo Trips I Would Love to Take

A few days in San Sebastián, Spain

We had a few days in San Sebastián for our honeymoon road trip around Spain and Portugal and I absolutely loved it. I would love so much to go back for a few days on my own and enjoy a few chilled days of wandering the paved streets enjoying lots of amazing pintxos and Spanish wine, spending lazy days on the pretty beach and seeing the sights.

A yoga retreat in France

I would so love to experience a health retreat of some sort at least once in my life. Nothing too hardcore and restrictive but just something really good for my wellbeing in beautiful surroundings. I would love to do a yoga retreat in France – enjoying yoga on the edge of a lake, and eating healthy meals for a week or so, to really rejuvenate me and give me a break from the stressors of daily life.

New York, New York

I’ve been to New York before and I loved it as much as I hoped I would – I would love to go back, and think it could be a lot of fun spending a few days there on my own, exploring and wandering the city. I would stay somewhere pretty basic that I could use as a base, and I’d get around either walking and discovering new places, or on the tube, which I’m sure I’d quickly get used to navigating. I could eat when and where I wanted, and see the places I want to totally on my terms.

Cornwall

I adore Cornwall and I really wish we lived closer so we could visit more regularly. It’s a brilliant place to go as a family, but I also love the idea of going on my own for a few days or more, too. I would spend loads of time wandering along the beautiful beaches and the clifftops, getting loads of fresh air and eating fish and chips looking out at the ocean. I would take a surfing lesson without worrying that my kids are safe on the beach with someone else, and spend as long as I liked reading my book lying on the sand, undisturbed. Ahh, heaven.

These are all really different trips but I would honestly love to do any or all of them. A solo trip really appeals to me and I hope one day I can go on one!
