3 Things That Add Value to Your Life & Your House

28th May 2020

So, at this minute the property market is certainly in an odd place but that won’t last for very long. Viewings are already back on the menu and people who wanted to move before Covid-19 will probably still want to. In fact, after the prolonged periods of time people spend indoors there may well be a huge number of people that want a bigger house. Couple this with the clear potential that big overseas holidays are likely to be off the cards for some time people may well also be thinking “why not spend our money on a new house instead?”.

Jamie Gray from Nexa Properties says “We are already seeing the market picking up, yes it stalled, but the demand for stock is growing substantially each day”.

There is always tonnes of advice on how to add value to your home but the suggested things are not always good for you, more for the new owner. There is a risk in doing things that way around because if we see some kind of second spike later in the year you may end up having to stay where you are. So any kind of adding value needs to be done around your tastes as much as anyone else. Here are 3 useful and brilliant ways to add value to your house that will add some value to your quality of life too!

A fire

Yes, it’s an oldy but a goodie. Getting a real fire put into your home certainly increases the value but they are also amazing for you to enjoy too.  Wood burning stoves are always the way to go, though a traditional open fire is lovely too but has a narrower appeal. Stoves are super popular as is the whole Scandi Hygge movement. However, it really shouldn’t be a case of just finding a random burner from an online shop and getting a local builder to fit it. You need to get professional help because a burner should be chosen on the basis of the room size among other things. Having a massive powerful stove in a tiny room might look good but it can actually damage the walls and worse!

Even if you don’t have a chimney you can still have a fire in most homes. The flue can be put up the side of the house or through the roof in some cases. The key is to get it done by a professional local fireplace company that can help you choose, supply and fit it for you. There are local companies dotted all over the country like Wakefords Fireplaces for example. Do your research, check for reviews and make sure you order it in the summer because come the Autumn you may find a very long waiting list in front of you.

Home Office

This is a big one. Building an office in your home has always been popular but since the pandemic working from home is now almost universal and you can rest assured people are getting fed up with working from the kitchen table. If you have a decent-enough sized garden then garden office sheds can make an amazing addition to your home that will make such a difference to you right now.

Home offices can be a very valuable addition to a home so make sure you choose a good one. Using an old shed in the garden that is full of spiders and freezing in the winter will not do the trick. Single skinned garden buildings are not the way to go. A custom-made garden room that is fully insulated so can be used year-round and suits your requirements exactly can be such a great addition. It can be used for many things, but a comfortable office space will be a pleasure now and certainly a pleasure for any potential buyer.

The Good Life

This one is a bit left-field, but setting up a proper vegetable patch is a big hit with buyers, especially in smaller towns and larger villages which tend to be targets of people moving out of cities. The pandemic panic buying certainly fuelled a mass home growing movement over the last few months so ride that wave and get planting. Raised beds look great and give a veg patch some class too. Buyers will look at the area and be thinking about how nice it would be to grow their own veg. Regardless of if they ever do it, it is a selling point and will help keep the price high if not help nudge it a tiny bit up. The key here is that while you live in the house you can get the benefit of it too. In fact, it’s essential you enjoy it and love it for it to be desirable to a buyer. Add to this a nice shed and garden storage and suddenly a grass area becomes a potential food store if this all happens again and that is appealing to lots of people.
