Try These Fabulously Festive Christmas Decoration Ideas For Small Spaces

Source

It’s that part of the year when the temperature gets colder and the shops start playing festive tunes. The Christmas season is among us once more, meaning you’re thrown into overdrive. As well as thinking about what to get your kids for Christmas, your attention turns to decorating your house. You want to make it as festive and joyous as possible – there’s just one thing getting in your way: you don’t have a very big house.

Maybe you’re living in a small apartment, or perhaps you just don’t have that much free space in your home. Whatever the reason, this lack of space gets in the way of creating the Christmassy feeling every year…until today.

Read this guide to learn all of the fabulous ways you can decorate even the smallest of spaces during the festive season!

Opt for a slim Christmas tree

With a small home, a real Christmas tree is out of the question. They’re simply too big and wide to fit in smaller spaces – but that doesn’t mean you should go without a tree at all. Generally speaking, artificial trees are better for a lot of reasons: they can last well over a decade, they’re less expensive and they come in styles befitting smaller homes.

Shop around for slim Christmas trees to find something that can tuck itself away in your living room. You will genuinely be able to pick up a tree that’s slim enough to fit in even the tightest of corners – or right next to your furniture/TV. These trees still look great as well, and you can decorate them however you like to add even more festive fun to the room.

If you’re worried about not being able to have a tree this year because there’s not enough space, then slim trees are the way forward.

Consider mini Christmas trees

There’s a chance – albeit a small one – that you genuinely don’t have any free floor space for a tree. In that case, you can still have a Christmas tree (of sorts), but it will need to be a little one. You should be able to buy mini Christmas trees that fit on tables or desks. It might not seem like much, but one of these on a coffee or dining table still adds the festive spirit to a room!

Make good use of fairy lights

For a lot of people, fairy lights are synonymous with Christmas. Everyone has their preferences – but true festive-lovers know that white or gold fairy lights are the best. They give off the most Christmassy vibes, and here’s the best thing: they are really easy to add to any small space.

  • Attach fairy lights to the inside of your window frames
  • Wrap some around a bannister or curtain pole
  • Stick some lights on your headboard in the bedroom
  • Drape a few over picture frames on the walls

You’ve already got some excellent ideas from that list – but many more exist for you to explore. Find some good fairy lights in different lengths so you can put them wherever you want. They take up absolutely zero space, and if you find outdoor fairy lights, then you can spruce up the outside of your home, too.

Add a wreath to your front door

While this doesn’t necessarily make the inside of your home that festive, it will make your house look like it has the Christmas spirit to any passersby. Wreaths are easy for you to find and attach to a front door, filling your house with festive cheer. Go one step further and make your own wreath as a fun Christmas activity with the kids – you could even make some smaller ones to hang on doors inside your home.

That way, you get the best of both worlds: a wreath that makes your house look festive from the outside and some smaller ones that add the festive feelings inside.

Decorate your tables

How many tables do you have in your house? The chances are you will have at least one of the following (maybe even both):

  • A coffee table
  • A dining table

Either of these tables gives you a wonderful way to decorate your home without taking up too much space. The tables exist anyway, so you may as well make the most of them. Give your tables a lovely Christmas tablecloth, then place some more festive decorations on them. Options include:

  • Christmas candles
  • Festive-themed napkin holders
  • Christmas coasters
  • Small ornaments

There are loads of ways to turn a table into a truly festive piece of furniture. You won’t need a large space for this and can rejoice in the Christmas vibes for the entirety of December.

Use Christmas scents

Christmas candles earned a mention in the previous idea, but that also makes us think about other Christmas scents. Buy reed diffusers, scented sprays, wax melts and anything else that fills your home with the smells of Christmas

You could argue that this isn’t really a decoration, yet it might have the biggest effect. Imagine walking into your home and smelling things like cinnamon and clove – or the freshness of pine. It transports you into the festive spirit and makes the entire house feel like Christmas. Honestly, give it a go, and you’ll realise that decorating your home is about more than just the visuals; smell plays a huge role, too.

Swap out your linen and bedsheets

Another very easy way to decorate small spaces this Christmas is by swapping out the following things with festive alternatives:

  • Cushions
  • Throws/blankets
  • Bedsheets & pillowcases

You will have no problem finding Christmas versions of all of these, and swapping them out means you turn rooms into beautiful festive places. It’s not hard to do, doesn’t take up any additional space and means you and your kids can feel Christmassy.

After all, that’s what this is all about. If your family celebrates Christmas, there’s no worse feeling than not getting that little festive buzz – especially if you have kids. You want them to be wrapped up in the magic of this time of year, so explore these ideas to prevent a small home from getting in your way.
